would someone explain to me what the advantage is of DUMPING $$$$$$ (or chose your currency) into an A block? You need 2 liters?? a 3SGE is quite a nice engine. prefer a bit more low end... stroke it... but taking an engine that at its smallest was 1295cc (2A SOHC) and increasing the volume by over 50%... just doesn't make a lot of sense to me.........

A lot of racing classes mandate the original block and head.

Can anybody give an answer to the earlier question raised on the relative strength of the 7A block to the late 4A?

I've seen two builds so far above 400whp on the stock block without failure. So it appears to be on par with a 4A. I'm building my engine to 350-400whp also, and I dont think the block is an issue.

Hmmmm. I have an AE101 GTZ Levin, that will be getting a new fully worked head soonish. I wonder if it's worthwhile sourcing a 7A block and SC14 to make a 9AGZE....

It says on wiki that you need to use 2zzge conrods, 2zzge conrods are longer then 7afe, so your increasing stroke and increasing conrod lenght? something doesnt add up, you could use the 1zzfe crank but you would have to get a custom rod made.

it does also say that the ca18 pistons would be good - maybe the pin sits higher in the piston bringing the top of it back down to the deck???

7A centre to centre length and piston pin height.

and then sizes of various rods that have same big end,
and pistons of right diameter with different pin diameter and pin heights....

7afe conrods are 132.5mm center to center, and the piston comp height is 30.20
2zzge conrods are 137.99mm center to center.
2zzge conrods are 5.44mm longer then 7afe conrods.
7afe stroke is 85.5mm and 1zzfe is 91.5mm so your increasign the stroke 6mm, 3mm up and 3mm down.

So with the 1zzfe crank and 2zzge conrods when the piston is at TDC it will be 8.44mm higher then in originally was, so you will need to adjust and take the 8.44mm off comp height, that will be cutting it very close to the rings, anyway comp height of the ca18de is 29.70, so yeah, wont work, a different piston/ conrod will need to be used.

the ca18 pistons wont work, they will sit out of the top of teh bore on the rods, there heights to high.

That may well be the case, I don't know enough about Nissan pistons. But I was addressing the point of moving the pin up, and that's a good thing generally.
