can any1 tell me what the fitting is on the top of this 044??

do i need to use it? or must i unscrew it and use an alternative fitting straight off the pump??

The standard outlet of an 044 is an M12x1.5 thread. You can certainly remove what is there and fit any standard 12x1.5 fitting.

I agree, it looks like a standard banjo fitting on it, but I don't know what the spring is you are talking about.

At a guess I'd say perhaps it is part of a one-way valve to stop fuel flowing back through the pump when switched off.

On a similar topic, can anyone suggest reasonably priced fitting and hoses for fuel setups? I don't look forward to spending $200 on a handful of hoses and fittings, but maybe that's reality? Would it be possible to use standard copper plumbing pipe and fittings?

    Cheers,

That fitting is indeed a check valve to keep pressure in the system. This can be replaced by a Speedflow item and a fitting so the hose can go straight out instead of using a banjo fitting.

As for reasonably priced fittings and hose... There is no such thing when you start buying a few of them. You have quite a few brands to pick from. These being Speedflow, PFE fittings, Earls and Russell to name a few. I can supply most of these, but i have found the PFE range to be the most reasonable prices, and the do a nice Black/platinum style that I have used on my car. One thing to remember is, 45/90 degree fitting are around/upto 3 time the price of a straight fitting.

I wouldn't use copper plumbing pipe either... Use steel bundy tube, similar to the copper tube to work with, but more resilient to some of the chemicals in fuels. Another option can be aluminum fuel lines. Most of the fitting brands have some quite reasonably priced aluminum tubing for fuel lines, and not a hole lot more than steel tubing, but cheaper than hose.

    earls 3/8 aluminium pipe = $23 and 1/2" = $28 (per 3 meter coils)

ill be using steel fittings with hosetailed/barbed ends this time round (about 8 bux each end of hard line)

teflon hose and speedflow fitting was a very expensive exercise last time round?

I could not find anything in the time I had to to fit on to the end of the one way valve fitting,

so I removed it and put a normal fuel type banjo fitting into the end of the pump instead.
