Exclamation HILUX RN90R DX Xtra Cab to 1UZFE

    Hi there

If you do this conversion do you need to get it engineered here in melb and do u have to go through an EPA test as well??

Can the stock computer stay or would you use the computer out of the 1uz??

    Hope that makes sense

I read this and thought you said an EPA test was needed - he card read good... lol

Anyway, to elaborate. You shouldnt need an EPA test if the model is available here as a low volume import - which must comply to Australian Design Rules (ADRs) in order to be sold. This is on the basis that you use pretty much the same as a stock set up regarding emissions, ecu, cat, etc - so you will need to use the stock ecu to pass this, and also to control an auto trans if you are going that way and pending on what the stock ecu controls (air con, security system) will determine if you need to retain it or can somehow use the 1UZ ecu to do this. Electricals arent relly my thing but there would be plenty of help/info out there.

Ribfeast got this quoted when he got his car engineered (1JZ into MX83)
Basically an EPA test determines if the emissions meets the standards set out in the ADRs.

You will need to get it engineered since (i believe) that it would require something custom to fit it (engine/trans mounts, tailshaft, etc). Use as many factory components that you can and as long as the work performed is not dodgy, then there shouldnt be too much problems. But always consult an engineer before and during the conversion because if they need to see a specific part then it is always easier to show them when its not installed.
