    Default ta23 engine conversion

i suppose you have been asked this question lots of times but i have researched that much i have confused myself! wat is the best engine conversion that i could put into my '76 ta23. the engine i have been thinking of are 1G-GTE, 3T-GTE, 1600cc twincam 2T-G, 1600cc turbo 4A-GTE/1600cc supercharged 4A-GZE. i was hoping someone would be able to giv me a clear guide as to wat engine is best and the parts involved in this upgrade.

    cheers mal

thats a question you have to answer yourself after you work out

    what your budget is
    what your skill level is
how available are these engines where u live
what engines are legally allowed to be put into the car
    how much time you have

there is no best engine, you make your decision on the points above

for example if you have little money and no skill a 2T-G would be the best conversion as long as this engine is available to you and parts are plentiful.

if you have lots of money and lots of skill then you wouldnt be asking question like this because you know what your capable of and you would have been able to decide for yourself. So think about the factors above it will narrow it down to about 2 choices i think

    Hi,

I definately think budget will have a lot to do with it. I agree with the 2tg idea for the price. The next step up would be an 18rg. Get the ra23/28 cross member, w50 gearbox and it should pretty much bolt it with little mod work. 3tgte would also be relatively easy (from what i've heard/read) but i don't think the engines are that cheap/available. Anything other than those and you'll probably need to start fabricating bits.

Ultimately budget will determine what you want. What sort of power are you looking for and what is the intention of use for the car.

Agreed. And anything more powerful will mean you'll need to upgrade your gearbox, diff and brakes - which makes it become more expensive and more work involved.
