is there not enough room for your hand or just that the handle gets in the way?

you could try cutting the handle down a bit then attaching some rope to the handle and pulling on it once its on? random idea lol

theres two ways to get a grip on it, slide down hand near manifold or under wheel. It took me 2 hours once to change it. Get a long screwdriver smash it threw and turn it. I also found getting a big alley key is useful for the 90 degree angle on it.

If you havent got it yet.

Get the correct sized hose clamp tighten her up. Then use anything to hit it or it could be used for more grip.

    But hose clamp FTW!~

just go buy some rubber gloves used for washing up! I had the same problem and couldn't get anything to grip. Think the idea came from a similar thread floating around here? Whacked a glove on and instant grip! if your hands can't get in there get a girly friend over!
    Goodluck!

I made my own oil filter from a bolt with a saw mark down the middle of the bolt all the way to the head and just used the belt from an old seat belt. Get a 12mm socket on the head of the bolt and turn away. I have used many oil filter removers and found this to be the most effective.

Yeah, hands too big to get a decent grip going from above, so going the under wheel method.
Gonna get some rubber gloves and some claw grip things, and try all sorts of things. I filled it up with oil last night as I needed to go somewhere though, and found the 10w40 is a bit thin, i think, bit noisy :s so I'll try and get the filter off, and when I do, replace with 10w50 or 15w50 or something. Thanks for all the suggestions everyone, +rep coming your way, and if I get stuck still, I'll kick-start the thread again

Holy crap. You need to get a relocation kit when you get that filter off.

    Hi,

I've not had any experience with 1g's but this little puppy should work provided you can get a ratchet to the end of it. It works in a similar fashion to plumbers wrench using torque for grip and then hey presto! I would hope that just about any workshop you go to would have one of these as they are fairly universal - 62-121mm. Pictured is a snap-on so not cheap.... but would have to be cheaper than relocating the oil filter surely.

Yeah, I'm thinking a relocation kit could be cool
But others seem to survive, I'll see how I go next time if I don't tighten it too much.
