    Default 4age (drivers side) Alternator

    Hey Guys..

    Alternator isnt charging any more..
any idea what other alternator fits on the 4age (bigport) block, on the drivers side?

any idea on part numbers? costs? outputs?

i hear the SV21 alternator fits, but im not sure if its a passenger or drivers side mount.

There are a couple of differant ones that it can be. Is yours a nippon denso alternator or a bosch? If its a bosch type alternator im not sure, but if its a nippon denso alternator then it could be an RXA 414 or a RXA 439 (ashdown ingrams part numbers). The 414 is a 70a alternator and the 439 is a 60a alt. If you need second hand and there are no genuine numbers on the alternator then they will probably need a sample.

Dont know if any of this will be helpful but.....

    Cheers Mark

Are you talking rwd or fwd?

By saying drivers side id assume rwd. So you can use the fwd alt and bracketry.

    hey guys!
    thanks for the quick replies.
been abit under the weather lately.
    anyway...
the 4age is map sensored ae82 fwd engine into a ta22.
if the alternator was at the 'front' of the ae82...then yeah - it will be a drivers side..

ive grinded, and edited, and modified my own mounts (including the alternator ones to fit them into the 22')...its been a bitch of a process - let me tell you.
its a shit to find that it wont charge up at all!

someone mentioned EA internals? is this for the nippon denso or the bosch?
    which one is better?

Front of the TA22 will be passenger side of the car. Hence nfi, all the stock AE82 and AE92 alternators were at the back of the engine, intake side.

    Im confused.

Are you looking for an alternator to go on the drivers side of the motor in the ta22?

Wouldnt that be a stock fwd alternator?

    Explain...

More than likely it is a nippon denso alt. Now to reco it PROPERLY you will need a regulator which can vary from 50 to 150. Then replacing front and back bearings will add on another $20 or so. Then depending on the length and condition of brushes they may need to be replaced. Which from memory they arnt very expensive.

Bosch alternaors are much cheaper and parts are much easier to get parts for. A reg will only be about $30 (note: only buy genuine bosch, a cheap copy wont last very long) two bearing p/n's 6303 bearing and a 6201 bearing is usually all you need and away they go. In some cases you need to change the rectifier plate but usually they test ok. Make sure if u do it yourself you machine the slip ring before putting in a new reg.

If u put up some pics of the alt i can tell you what it is off.

    Hope this helps you out

You will probably find that the denso alterantors will last longer but the bosch alternators are cheaper. Depending on what you want.

But if its externally regulated then it will almost always be denso. but the best thing to do will be to chuck some photos up and let everyone take a look. (Front and back and side views would be good.)

that was my next point. Densos usually do last longer so its an option for what you want. And they are a smaller unit aswell

    wow...so much alternator knowledge!..
i ended up finding a bosch unit which fit in nicely....
for some strange reason - the engine i got came with a mount which would have mounted exhaust side...after a shitload of welding, grinding and bleeding..i made it fit on the intake side...
not sure how many amp is it tho - because i started the car, indicated out of the drive-way and blew the main fuse (80A)?
it cant be more than that could it?
    stezza - indicator - lights - bosch 044 - would that break the 80?
    i wouldnt have thought so...
really need to put the multi on it..
im too lazy - and dont have enough time!
+rep for everyone...seriously, amazing knowledge base here.
