Rover 3500 V8 - Information for conversion

In the early landrovers and rovers in general they brought out a 3.5L all alloy V8
Does anyone know much about these motors or what the actual name of the motor is so I can look it up??

i can find out for you but it will be on monday, a few units up we have one of the main rover garages in perth.
what info did you need, im sure if you search google for 3.5 or 3.9 rover v8 you will get bulk info or try searching rover 3500 sd1, sd2.

they are a shit motor tho, all of them. Ive seen heaps of people try do them up with bad results.

Fixeruperer - May be a shit motor in a heavy car, lightweight celica could be a different story though, especially with just normal NA upgrades: Headwork, Cams (pushrods and lifters inthis case) & injection.

No, used to own an 80's vogue rangie, was a beast (guzzled fuel but was awesome offroad)...
However, I wouldn't put one in a celica mainly because the fuel economy is terrible and they are not the easiest of engines to mantain... lots of money in spare parts. In a Rangie, they are great torquey engines. But not ideal for a celica.

i dont meen there a shit motor just becuase they are slow they are actuly a shit motor hehe they break all the time blow headgaskets chew cam lobes outs, crack heads and when they overheat they die.

Can't personally speak for the 3.5L petrol, having never owned a Landie with one. But I can vouch for the 4.2L V8 petrol... Thats the pick of the lot (nowdays they run Jag engines, which are even better).

it would have been bmw not jag, bmw bought rover a few years ago but it has now been sold again.

No kidding. Why go for some British lump when you can have one of the best V8's; and made by Toyota?

I went 4WDing with a Range rover nut! he reckons the the v8's they come with are the worst motors in existence! he imported a twin charged 4.9 (don't quote me on capacity) rover engine from the UK to use in his rangie i think he calls it "Blown Crazy" or something.

and a landrover V8? that almost deserves NEG REP, *(used to work for landrover and volvo.... ever thought why the rangerovers switched to BMW v8's?) coz landy couldnt build a motor to save itsefl!

I'd fit an LS1 before using one of those contraptions... Sure, you can get plenty of 'tuning parts' from the UK for them, but overall frought with difficulty and dramas. Why not a 4V/5V early Toyota V8? Still a light pushrod V8.. And at least it looks slightly tough!

Rover V8 = head gaskets and oil leaks till your wallet dies. So much money for a gutless fuel guzzling POS.

LS1 all the way. If you must, a Windsor.

Those 4/5V Toyota V8s are just too esoteric - bit are just too hard to find for them. And they're almost as wide as a 1UZ, without the wholesome goodness of a 1UZ.
