    Default Slotting rotors

I did a quick search for adding slots to plain rotors and have come up with only a few bits of information.

What I was wanting to know is does anyone have experience with adding slots to plain rotors? Provided that the slots do not go deeper than the minimum thickness of the rotor and are machined in by a ball end mill and not extending beyond the outer edge or to the inner edge where to steps out to the hub.

I'm in Brisbane if there are any machine shops that could do this.

Not much help in getting the job done, but most machine shops would be charging a decent amount just to do such a job (Industrial rates).
My advice is find a back yard type of machinist who has their own milling machine. Become friends with these type of people, they are very handy to know

try going to a company that deals with RDA they should be able to send them to melbourne to get slotted in a 4 day turnaround time. expect about $100pr
it would take a backyarder longer to do it than it would some chump to put it in a CNC mill.

    cheers

I think it's probably not worth the hastle. By the time you've spent the money, you might as well have just gone out and got slotted rotors in the first place.

I there any major reason that you can't just get the slotted rotors? Unless you've got some intricate design you need, I would suggest the R&D guys who make the rotors know what they are doing.

I had a pair of RDA rotors done also by a company in Melbourne... may have been the same one.
As far as i can tell, they did a good job.

Kevin at Specialised Brake and clutch in Sydney can do them if you send the discs to him. He can even source the discs and then slot them for you. I've sent discs down to him in the past to be reduced in diameter and slotted.

Alternatively you could try Craig at Extreme Custom Engineering on Meadow Ave in Coopers Plains. He's done brake mods for me in the past, can't recall if he slots them too.

Cheers for all the advice. I'll try out a few leads and see how I go, I can always live without the slots by going to some higher temperature pads. Plus the glazing wears off after a few hundred km anyway

IIRC RDA now offer a slotted variant of their entire range. They are not overly expensive anyway so you might as well get a fresh set of discs that have been machined correctly.

Couldn't agree more - I looked at drilling new rotors myself initially (bad move), then looked at having them slotted - but the costs for RDA or DBA to do them as part of the purchase makes it a no-brainer.
