dunno but take pics as you go cos this is the next major thing im gunna be doing to mine
Does a rack have to be mounted with rubber bushings or can I just hard mount it with tight fitting metal mounts?
Sorting out my rack conversion and hadn't really thought about this too much. To me it doesn't seem like it should matter, if anything should make it slightly tighter.

It's probably more to dampen out any road noise/vibration/sound.
Another possibility is if you get flex through the body and crossmember you wouldn't want that force applied to the rack as it might potentially damage the gears. Rubber between the 2 would help avoid this.

ive seen racks hard mounted before but be prepared to go to physio regularly with the vibrations you will feel thru the wheel.
if your using a KE70/AE86 rack you can buy super pro bushes if you want a snug fit.
cheers

Well the Celica uses a rubber isolator between the steering box and the steering column with the box, idler, and other steering components being solid mounted.
My corolla on the other hand has no isolator between the rack and steering column but has the rack mounted with rubbers.
Your alfa may have some other rubber present.

The Alfa has Iron Oxide mountings for all major components, and panels.
You have to pay extra for that. I've only got a cheep 1, they used steel and aluminiumOriginally Posted by mrshin
