parts washer....thats no fun
man if youve got a spare dishwasher sitting around, i rekn go for it lol
grab some overalls and some good safety glasses![]()
We also use a big enclosed parts washer at our work. Ours is an ERS (Enviromental Recovery Services) unit that uses some sort of water based degreaser/cleaner and is heated and sprayed onto a rotating basket inside.
I'm sure you could get the cleaning agent from them separately. I have a phone number (03) 9706 4411 but no address. I think they are located somewhere in Dandenong (Vic).
Cheers
Glen
we had a hot bin at one of the resturants (spargos in richmond) i worked at as a chef. was just a big metal drum with a heating element, the cleaning agent kinda reminded me of caustic soda, but that will rust metal if its not treated with something with a high acidity (ie lemon juice
)
either way this dishwasher sounds like its going to be pretty lethal lol
hey i just had a thought i could use that citraforce product, its natural and shouldnt hurt the seals or you know.. cause an explosion
big problem with caustic cleaners is that they don't like aluminium or brass.
i'd go for a cheap 20 gallon pasts washer like Sigmeister suggests - a few adverts in JustParts have these at quite cheap prices (e.g. less than the bits needed to convert a dishwsher).
Having said that, please do the dhiswasher conversion while leaving the heater intact and then use a solvent liquid - the video should be very entertaining... i'm a big fan of things that unexpectedly go kerboom![]()
^^^ lol!!
this will be quite the funny
but if it works without any mishaps itd be quite the boring haha
yeah I should buy a cheapie off ebay, fill it up with a "cleaner" like thinners and then let it start up in the middle of my backyard whilst rolling some film. Not quite what I had in mind when I originally posted this thread though, oh well
i cant remmeber the stuff we used to use back at my engine building job, just call a builder and ask what they use in the parts spin washer

On that note, don't ever use spray degreaser in a supercheap parts washer. Inside the lid there is a notice about not using chemicals with a low flashpoint - mine is kinda scorched now...Originally Posted by thechuckster

WTF!? doesnt that defeat the purpose?
You can use normal liquid degreaser no problem, the spray stuff is just a little bit too flammable.
It might be OK if you let the fumes settle a bit before you turn the washer off, I was too busy checking if I still had eyebrows to do any more experimenting.![]()

not yet ... it's still unexpectedly rattling at the moment, but am sure this weekend's drive thru Mt Mee and beyond will move it closer to random implosion (or cam chain thru the timing cover)Originally Posted by Dust
