BHG on beams 3sge (anyone want to make some $$ in VIC?)

Anybody keen to make some $$ changing a headgasket on a beams 3sge (fwd version from caldina)

It's my cousins he blew it after racing a v8, from what he told me it points to a BHG, loss of coolant, pouring out steam/white smoke from exuast, running on 2 cylinders till warmed up, terrible idle.

He's gone to order new HG and headbolts, and would prefer to pay someone that knows toyota's rather then a rip off mechanic.

Should only take within a day, the head/motor never overheated.

No takers? Pretty much just like changing a headgasket on any 3sge motor except for a few more extra electrical plugs to disconnect. Name your price because chances are it's going to be cheaper then what he was qouted.

i can do it but not until next saturday ,and those gaskets are hard to blow because they are steel 3 layers of steel

What car is the engine in at the moment?
Also I wouldn't just replace the gasket without checking out the head as well, I can't really see why it would blow without a reason.

mrshin, it's in an aw11 mr2, Yes it checking the head out would be a good idea, but if it hasn't overheated which was the main thing i was concerned about, but worth checking for warpage in any case.

CelicaRA45: That's interesting about having 3 layer steel HG's stock, i am baffled that it blew a headgasket! possible it's not the headgasket, altho all symptoms point to it bieng the headgasket.

well I'll take the engine and he won't have to worry about it at all then! I even have a 3SGE with a perfectly fine head gasket he could probably use right here

just tell him the head was buggered so you had to change the head as well

has he done a TK check yet?that will determine blown HG or not. And was the Mr2 oreginally Charlies?white aw11, had a 3sgte in at one stage?

Has the HG ever been replaced or re-installed ? If it wasn't installed properly then it's possible it could give way.

Ah late reply sorry guys, yeah he took it to some mechanic/dyno place and i think they confirmed it was a HG, and qouted $800 to change the HG, not including parts.

Wow this engine seems to be well known, Yeah that's charlie's old blacktop, but my cousin has an identicle white mr2.

Haven't seen charlie on these forums for awhile i wonder what he's upto these days.

rwd, pretty sure it's the original HG, the engine was buaght with about 60,000k's on it.

well when its done make sure you pour water like you are peeing open up the heater bleeders and raditator bleeders to make sure it doesnt get a air lock the altezza motors have the same problem if you fill these fast
