Panasonic make a nice powered timing light that will pick up the pulse through the wires triggering the individual coils. I think they are expensive tho.
Hey guys, Found this info. on the old forums.
1)Connect timing light to system with testing probe connected to the igniter check wire.
2) Test timing the conventional way.
3) ?????
4) Profit
5) Be touched by His Noodly Appendage.
If it works GT's way thats good, but I think some timing lights don't like it so much (mine anyway), here is my method:
1) Get old lead like coil to plug or dizzy to plug and cut one end off, exspose core by striping insulation.
2) Remove coil pack, wedge stripped end into coil, put other end on spark plug
3) Test timing conventionally by placing lead thingy onto your new lead thingy
4) Have a beer to ponder results from timing check and plan phase 2 attack
5) ?????
6) Profit
7) Be touched by His Noodly Appendage.
Would like to use method 1 as I don't have spare leads but which one exactly is the check igniter wire? And how do you hook it up? Do you just clamp the box thing around it like a lead or do you have to strip the insulation of it and hold it on the metal?
Thanks
Chris

thanks mate but not an option unless I have to as I want to get this done tonight.
Ok Chris how about an extension of what you are planning,.......Go to supercheap or somewhere like that, buy one of those nasty old timing lights, the type which doesn't have the inductive clamp but are 'wired' in series with the plug/coil, then just make a spark plug extender, this goes between the coil and the spark plug BUT between the coil and the plug you put you cheap nasty series type timing light, they don't flash real bright but it might get you out of trouble. the extender just needs to be steel tube that will 'clip' over the top of the plug and can fit into the coil/crappy timing light.
