    Default 1JZ engine management dilemas,

    hi all,

I am in the process of going single with Garrett T66 on my 1JZ,
I already got 540cc injectors and the turbo.
I am looking at spending the coins on the ECU 1JZ.
I was told to go for Haltech E11 v2, i know it is good but it is very dear @ $2300
Haltech also offer E6X for $1380 and E8 for $1700
Now I am leaning toward the cheapest E6X, it sound not too bad and save me some coins.
I am not sure what is the differences between them 3, I only know that E11 has 14 channels and E8 only has 8.
Anyone have any experiences with E6X for their 1JZ? please shed me some lights.

    Thanks,

Talk to Norbie, his experiences with an E6K on a 2JZ will be similar, ie: can't run 6 injectors for sequential injection, and must pair ignition outputs to run waste spark rather than independedt direct fire ignition. E11 will give you all the outputs you need, but then at the price you may as well go Autronic.

What are your aims for the car? Perfect cruise mixtures & overall squeaky clean driveability, or a weekend fun car that goes to the track on occasions?

My 1jz is running on an e6x. I did not set it up, so can not comment on that side of it.
I believe that a number of toymodders are running the same combo with no probs.

I've not had any issues with the ecu since owning the car.

As far as differences between the e6x and e8,
Look at the comparison here: http://haltech.com.au/ecu_comp.htm

The main benefits of the the e8 over the e6x appear to be:
    1) more mapping points
    2) user definable mapping rpm resolution
    3) closed loop boost control

Have a read of the product pages and manuals on the haltech site and make a decision based on that.
The e8 also appears to have on-board data logging, which could be a plus depending on what you are doing with the car.

If it was me, I'd probably get the e8 just for the few extra modern features mentioned above.

I doubt you need the e11v2.
    ¿?

My aim is to get 250rwkw on 14psi daily and 270rwkw at 18psi for track.
It is my daily car but meet the tracks every now and then. So a good tune is a must.

I know E11 sound very good, and is exactly suit my goal. But damn $2500 for all the parts is hella lot. Think I will save up more and bite the bullet.
    Thanks for the inputs.

E8 is probably the best compromise for features and price. It's pretty much the same as the E11, the major difference being you'll have to run the ignition in waste-spark mode. This isn't a problem, lots of big power JZ engines run waste spark. IMO it's not worth paying so much extra for the E11 on a street engine.

That said your goals are pretty modest and the E6X will do the job just fine. I have an E6K on my 2JZ which is pretty much the older version of the E6X with a few features missing and it's doing the job very nicely. It came off another 2JZ which had been running a reliable 800hp for years.

    Manual or auto box Cressid@?

What sort of "track" are you referring to, drag or circuit? You seem to have a very definite aim with your two power figures (although i'd expect more than 20rwkw difference with an extra 4psi boost).

It is manual R154, it is mainly for circuits and occasionally drag. Went to wakefield park and skid pan also did a few 1/4 time. Lookng into drifting as well just for fun.

Why does everyone sound so convincing? I would love to save that $1000 and jumb on E6X.
how hard isit to wire it up? It will be wire by myself and a friend, with a tiny bit of knowledges, he has wired it up a microtech on his 13B.

I would want the car to have good fuel economy when cruising as well, is that up to the job of the tuner? or also depending on the ECU?

Thanks for all the input guys!

With a manual gearbox, 250kw on 14psi will be a walk in the park.

Economy is a factor of good ecu, good tuner, and not overly large injectors (which are hard to control at small opening times on cruise)

Yep that's real good. I paid about $2300 for E6X + tune, installed myself.

Yeah, I thought it is a good deal.
Its Adam from Just Engine management @ Moorebank, he specialises in Haltech. We got him tuned a few cars before, so thought it would give me a good price.
The thing I like most about it is the plug and play harness.

Plug and play harness FTW. I had to make a harness from scratch with my E6K because Haltech don't even make flying lead kits for them any more, and it's a massive PITA.

    I am changing my mind.

Does anyone know if JZA70 Power FC will work with JZX81?
it seems the wiring harness and plugs are idenitcal.

What condition is the Power FC and what does it come with as there is a hell of a lot of accessories that when the Power FC was in production, were quite expensive. Sure there have been some good things such as the data logit but you probably wont have any form of support or warranty as compared to a new ECU.

Go though the pros and cons of the ECUs you are considering and your ultimate aim (make sure you take into account future plans - not just mods) for the car and also whether you want to keep the ECU for another car or sell it when you sell your Cressida.

Probably most important of all is to talk to a professional, and take in the advice of the person who will be doing the tuning not to mention viewing thier results with similar engine packages (if they are nice they might even arrange a drive for comparison).

Food for thought - but i thoroughly look forward to your progress!
