    Default Soarer EMV screen

    Hi everyone,

I am currently looking at 1uz powered soarers, and have found one that mechanically looks the goods (alternator replaced, power steering pump done, gearbox reconditioned, timing belt done etc.) but has a few niggly bits that are putting me off.

The major one of these is to do with the touchscreen. It seems to have a dead spot along the left side and bottom left corner. Everywhere else I can activate the buttons, but in these areas it simply wont register. I am wondering if anyone has had experience with these and might know whether replacement screen is in order, or whether it may be repairable?

    Cheers, Matt

as a rule, touch screens are not repairable - a check of wiring connecting the screen to other hardware before obtaining a replacement would be sensible process.

It's not a touchscreen in the modern conventional sense where physical contact with the screen triggers an event - you are actually breaking the emission/collection of light by LEDs placed along the edge of the display screen (EMV).
Nine times out of ten it's just 15 years of accumulated dust on these LEDs/sensors that prevents the "touch" triggering and dissasembly, a good clean and reassembly restores perfect operation.
In the rare event that it is fubared, Mark Paddick ([email protected]) from the ALSC (http://soarercentral.com/cgi-bin/sc-....cgi?pg=topics) repairs them in Canberra or supplies replacements at very affordable prices ( $100-300).

    Totally agree and well said

The cleaning usually repairs this problem 90% of the time.
