Is it smoke or steam?
I had a similar problem with a VL turbo, turns it was steam and my head was cracked 1 month after it had brand new rebuilt head put in.
Hey guys my 4agte recently started blowing alot of wihte smoke on start even when warmed up turned off and then turned on, say if take it for a drive then stop turn it off for 2 mins and then start it up again bam more white smoke shit loads. Turbo boost fine , motor runs great but it poors out all this smoke after any initial stop and start . What could it be ? the motor has had a recent rebuild , the only thing i can think of is the turbo seals are gone as i have recently installed a boost controller for 10psi.
Cheers for the help

Its deffinatly smoke mate
Ive got some more info on whats going on ... if i drive the car for abit then let it sit there for around 1hr or so it will not blow smoke on startup.. it only happens when i stop for 5 mins and then start it again "like feeling petrol up" Could it be oil being burnt off in the turbo ?? like a restriction of oil , or could it just be the seals ?? as the car doesnt blow any smoke while boosting hard.
so its not blowing white smoke when your driving just on start up and restart?
If thats the case, you might wanna try checking your oil feed lines for kinks or anything that may be forcing oil through the seals, if its white it usually means coolant, so double check all symptoms of coolant in your oil and vice versa,
its not coolant its just oil burning off through the seals.. mm i check for kinks and restrictions in the hoses you may be onto something, as it doesnt burn white smoke 30 mins after stoping only pretty much straight away , its like it not draining properly
Oil smoke is blue, buddy. White smoke is coolant/water. Big difference.
Do yourself a favor and run a compression test & cooling system pressure test.

comp test is the go...
you will know if the engine is good or not. Failing that pull off the turbo to check and see if it is full of oil/
ps valve stem seal could have come off ?

Cooolant/Water is blue smoke.
Does the white smoke come from the engine bay or from the exhaust?
Yeah... thats why your a backyard mechanic.. J/K
No, but seriously... oil is bluish smoke, rich is black smoke, coolant/water is whitish smoke. Coming from me, an ASE certified tech.

Not to metnion oil smoke stinks terribly, unlike the other two which are more mild a tolerable to the nose.
Yeah... sure thing... I guess you've never been around some of my friend's crappy tuned pig rich 400cc injectors on an ECU meant for 200... backyard turbo cars where it makes you want to puke and your eyes waterOriginally Posted by YLD-16L
. Then oil smoke might seem like potpourri.

Ever had the oils seals blow on a turbo?Originally Posted by turbo4agte

Why is it white smoke that burns off your engine after you work on it and get oil on some places?
Not having a go at you, just something im curious on.
oil smoke is blue.
coolant is white steam.
oil smoke hangs around, coolant into the exhaust rises and dissipates fairly quickly.
