Yeah, probably more dependent on strut/brake combo that you use.

Digging, again!
Iv fitted an *A70 column and AE86 PS rack to the RA28.
Can anyone please run a tape measure over their steering shafts (column - rack)?
I need something in the region of around 300mm (to end of both uni's). The *A70 one i have is more like 400mm ish (eye ball).
Cheers
Jeffro
Usually people complain about the shaft being too short.. But thats the KE70 one.. A70 must be different.
I'll get measurements tomorrow for you if no one jumps in first.
I thought it would be to short to since have moved my rack and cross member forward somewhat.
That would be great if you could get those measurements Joel, thanks.

I'm about to measure my stuff up too Jeffro.
Running KE70 xmember, and GA70 steering. Did you have any major prob's to speak of?
I've got KE70 R&P. I used the RA23 column housing, RA23 upper steering shaft (bit that mounts to steering wheel) slid into the KE70 lower shaft (part that stick thru firewall with a uni-joint on the end.) I mounted two ball bearings in the end of the RA23 column housing to support the end with the Uni joint similar to stock KE70 ball bearing.
Then used the normal KE70 short shaft with uni to attach to the Rack. I needed this to be 10mm or so longer for my application. It should be made of two pieces, I just hit mine to extend the necessary amount. Not sure how far you can safely extend it out however, you'd really need to pull apart completely to check exact lengths.

No major problems really timbo, thats if i can find a lower shaft suitable
Since its PS rack i think its a tad taller in the pinion shaft then manual versions so should gain some distance here also.
*A70 column went in peice of piss. Welded on some tabs to widen the two main column mount wings to suit the wider *A70 column mounts. For firewall plate i just cut the center out of the *A70 plate and welded it to the inner of the stock firewall plate after gutting it aswell. Some minor clearancing of *A70 column also but takes 2 mins with grinder. Is telescopic and tilt adjustable
Thanks for input peoples, eagerly await your repsonces with measurements
Cheers

Im pretty sure ill have trouble finding a ke70/ae71 one with the PS spline size. Or is that uni dependable only? As in, the shaft remains the same but the uni takes up the spline size change of PS vs non power racks?
So guys did you give those tape measures some love today or wha?
Kinda..
I got a measurement for you I hope is useful.
I forgot the xmember and rack/bottom uni is out of the car at the moment..
So I took a measurement from the firewall to the end of the steering column shaft (with no uni attached) and this was around 250-260mm. This was with the steering column shaft pointing outwards at a 90 deg angle to firewall.
Cheers
Joel
Seems pretty close to what i need. What steering column shaft are you using?
Thanks for heads up man!
I am using a complete KE70 steering column.
The shaft was originally 10 - 20mm shorter but they can be extended on the shaft between the 2x uni's.
