Why not upgrade the clutch while you have the motor out? At least replace it before you swap the engine inEspecially if you're looking at a lightweight flywheel.
I will be picking the engine up on tuesday next week. Engine, loom Ecu...(Or ecu's, have been told there is two..."?" ) and the 205 gear box..Yeee Faaarken ha! ....I know where the diff from that 205 is too, and may just grab it while I there
I am still learning though, and have a few concerns about what to do.
Engine conversion state of mind....."One day, it'll never happen, what the hell are you thinking, next day, peice of piss, get it done mate."
I want 350hp out of it, so there wont be much "beefing up" done. After market computer is a definate once I manage to stuff the engine in there and hopefully get it running myself...maybe do away with top mount and "file" a front mount away in the tight area that a 165 allows at the front....(have been told top mount wont fit, but would love it if it did) exit intercoler water pump, and redirect the power steering fluid cooler bar thingomagig, get a slim line thero fan to make room enough.
I want to keep the engine as basiclly standard as I can really, I dont believe I will need a exedy clutch or a head job..hehe or anything after market to strengthen her, but I like the idea of a light weight flywheel to assist in getting it all spinning quicker.
Thats what I know, or assume or have been told about what to do. Any gurus out there?
I'll Be Gratefull for any assistance. Thank you guys

Tim (Kyoto) got a 205 intercooler under his bonnet, I believe quite a lot of panelbeating was required to make the bulge in the bonnet and fit the vent, but it looks fucken fantastic on his car
But probably much easier and cheaper to stuff a front mount in instead![]()
I've done this conversion and I've got another one to do in a a few weeks time. the top mount wont fit unless you cut a hole in the bonnet or beat the crap out of it. the stock clutch will handle it as a 2WD car, but in GT4's they start to slip badly once you hit those sorts of HP values . For the small amount of $, I suggest you do a small clutch upgrade now as they are shit to pull out and re-do. pm me if interested in lightened flywheels or uprated clutches . i also have the special 165 GT4 engine mounts which you will need
How sweet is that, you have done it before my friend. How is it I need special 165 mounts. my cars a 165, can i not do them mods myself?
Well I got the engine, its very clean and i am going to drop it in to see how it goes as is. I dont want to pull it apart being as good as it looks. I have pullled out my old crappy old one, came out easy enough. So I have had a hint that tyhe engine mounts are going to be an issue, but heard nothhing more. Im in two minds about what i will do with the engine. No more clutch kit or flywheel looking at a standard conversion.

AAAAwwwwK. I have pulled out the old engine out.....its a far cry from the new. i have found alot of differences in the new
The sump is completely different and looks that it comes apart in two pieces, with the actual sump being very thin, and an extra alluminium piece making up the rest of it, which comes away from the block. There is an Inlet/outlet right next to the turbo oil dump, which is "factory" blocked up. Two bolts hold it on.
It is the 3rd gen with the air inlet into the cams. I have noticed the engine mounts are different but seem in the same place and using the ones out of the 165 should work with a bit of mixing andf matching.
Front mount will be the go for me as I didnt get the pump and intercooler radiator with the engine, would rather just front mount as my main aim is for the car to look as original as possible, with a hidden front mount hopefully behind the spotties.
The turbo of course is the ct20b, and is blocked off (factory) where the 165 wants to have is water outlet to the radiator....Is there a reason for this, and can i just use my radiator and run the water as it is in the 165 with this turbo.
I have a monsta dump and manifold, is that worth putting back on , or should i give AUZZIE EXHAUST $1800 for the dump and manifold, which seems steep for a few pipes.i ask them why it was so much, they told me the 3ml width of the pipes metal itself, the ones i have seem pretty solid and well made....
Im back at work now so putting the engine in will be a while, and yes the clutch and lightweight flywheel will be done.
the mounts from the 165 will all work fine, you will have to swap the brackets for the engine mounts on the engine block and gearbox over

Hey 88FOUR heres a great site that may help you with getting 350hp out of your new engine.
http://www.mrcontrols.com/primers/power.htm
Keep in mind that the 3SGTE they are referring to is in a RWD MR2 so any hp figures at the wheels will be more than you will achieve due to more power loss of the AWD drivetrain.
All the best!
