Default To buy or not to buy..

Hi guys im pretty new here im almost 17 just looking at buying a first car, with a $4.5k budget. Ive found a 91 supra, with a 7MGTE + BHG for $4k neg. Because of the head gasket, the car is running very rough and its very hard to pick any other problems with the car (diff, gearbox, wheel bearings, etc), especially as i cant drive it anywere. Ive phoned a few mobile mechanics about getting an auto check done on it but they all said its not worth my time or money to buy a check if they cant drive it. The question is: do i fork out $4k and take the chance that this car is a bomb or should i hold onto my money and keep searching. Any help appreciated guys

Hi mate, for your first car I would steer clear of a 7m with a bhg. Since you havent got much experience you wont be able to do much of this yourself and a workshop will charge you for 1500 at LEAST.

If your dead set on supras look for a GA70 they will be around the same price as the 7m with bhg.

Big rule of thumb mate is if you have doubts, walk away there will be other cars around ;-)

Buy in haste regret at leisure, give it a pass if the owner isnt bothered changing the head gasket then they would hardly do much other maintainance.
Getting your missus to help bleed the brakes isn't everybody's idea of quality time.

Ga70's are only good if you are going to rip out the 1G and put in a 1J...or for that matter a 7m. a 1400 (or wateva) kilo car with a 2 litre turbo is not a good mix. the beneft of ga70's is that they havent been thrashed....mainly because they cant be....slow as dogs balls...

sorry back on topic, good job for waiting it out, the right car will fall in your lap if you give it a bit of time.
