Crack in 2t/3t Injected hybrid's timing cover.

Hello all,

A friend of mine has discovered a large crack extending from a bolt hole location to the back of the timing cover on his 2t/3tge hybrid motor.

What is the go for having this repaired as I would imagine 2nd hand timing covers would be considerabley rare and costly and also the labour involved in having it swapped over would also be quite expensive. Is there anyway such a crack can be repaired without removing the head and timing cover?

The car is located in SA.

it is a 3tge bottom end with a 2tge head as far as I am aware. Snyper (Brendan) had this engine built at fours n more in South Australia some time ago. I dont know if he still frequents the forum or not. Im pretty sure any 3t/2t twin cam cover would work but Im not 100%. What are you asking for it ONCE-NA with postage to 5091?

you could get it welded and milled flat again, but it would be difficult to get the bolt hole alignment right without the engine out..

actually is it in 2 pieces, or just started to crack? if its still 1 piece, it would be piss easy to do. a head shop should do it no worries

It just looks like a hairline crack begining from a bolt hole location for the timing cover and extending back to where the timing cover meets the block. Its probably only an inch or so long but spews oil when the engine is running so obviously it has cracked all the way through. The person who installed the motor into his ta22 decided to relocate the alternator bracket to this bolt location which I beleive has caused the issue.
