how long has it been doing this for and has it been getting progressively worse?
No help at all - but mine does the exact same thing - low revs, under load, there is a grinding ( kind of like something is loose - metal on metal ) - as I accelerate, it disappears. That's with a 1J and R154.

It's been doing it ever since I put it in - doesn't seem to be getting any worse.Originally Posted by chaserbuddy

Since where on the topic of R154, hopefully this isnt ot off topic...
I know Twin Plates are noisy, but mine is incredibly noisy when the clutch pedal is in and the car is in gear. Take it out of gear, some noise goes away, and what seems to be twin plate noise stays, put it back into gear, and their is a production line of baby rattles under my car...
Anyone explain this to me?
Cheers,
Jase
hey
twin plate clutches generally only make noises when you have you foot constantly on the clutch pedal. This noise is normal for a twin plate clutch. However the noise should normally be the same when ever your foot is on the clutch pedal. it shouldn't not change weather your in gear or out of gear. This is telling me there is a difference in load on the clutch when your in gear to when your out of gear. i.e you might need to adjust your clutch pedal stroke. Some one verify this please.
cheers.

I was thinking the same thing. But i have a feeling the noise when in gear isnt the rattle from the clutch, more so a whine from gearbox maybe?
I cant remember now because ive only driven the car twice, and both times were for 45secs cause i have no radiator
But it was sweet none the less

hey,
it wouldn't be a whine from the gearbox as your car would be trying to move forward. The gears in the box wouldn't actually be moving. u might hear a whine when you have it in neutral with the clutch pedal all the way out. Id say the noise is the clutch being partly engaged trying to grip but there is not enough pressure on the the clutch for it to grip. try putting the gear in neutral and having your foot completely down on the clutch pedal, put your ear up to the gearstick and see if you can hear any gears moving in the box. Mine makes a weird crunching sound when the clutch is being ridden when reversing slowly. Mines not a twin plate though, an exedy hyper single based on a twin plate design.
hope this helps
cheers
I will have to have another listen, as i dont know if that'd be the cause of what im hearing...
And i think the whine might have only been when rolling, in reverse, down a hill...
Cheers,
Jase
