    Default 22re/3y differences

Hey if found this for sale really close to where i live
    http://www.nissansilvia.com/forums/i...&#entry2001145

He was gunna put it in a hilux that has a 3y so the custom work he has done was to replace the 3y

No i've got an RA65 comming and i was originaly going to put a 1uz in it and use it as a tow car but this is looking to be the goods.

So my main questions are: will the custom work he has done be good or bad for my conversion ?
    and
are the 3y and 22re similar at all ?

    Thanks mookie

what do u mean they aren't heavy enough ?

if i can tow an SA63 on a 800kg trailer with an SA63 then i recon an MA65 will do it fine

Your nuts dude, I wouldn't be using one fullstop for towing regardless of engine, they just aren't built for towing, are too light and also don't have the greatest brakes.

If you wanna tow something get a shitter old live rear axle commonwhore or falcon.
    If in doubt power out

what makes u think that ?

Naturally i would upgrade the brakes and suspension when upgrading the motor.

I KNOW it will be able tow it because i've done it with lesser equipment.

If u want on my way to S.A. i'll swing by and show u.

To answer the original question: no it's not similar at all, and I can see a fair bit of stuffing around getting it in there. In any case the 3Y is a pretty small engine and regardless of mods it won't be the best thing for towing a car with. 1UZ conversion FTW.

I was going to use the 7mgte as the tow car motor.
the 7mgte i've found is setup to replace a 3y
where as i was going to use it to replace a 22re.
and i was asking if the custom work done to the 7mgte will be any good to me or if i will have to throw it all away.

I've had a big weekend and my brain is still mush.

Y series vs R series, ie completely different engine design.

I think you need to look at Aus standards/ADR with regard to the towing capacity of the RA65 (regardless of engine/brakes/suspension) I believe the general rule(correct me if im wrong here) is that you cant tow anything heavier than the vehicle you are towing with (legally) unless the vehicle you are towing with has a full chassis. This is why old crowns and utes are ideal for towing, as they incorporate a full independant chassis. SOOO... regardless of the ability for you to accelerate/brake/corner etc... the vehicle's structure is more than likely not going to be legally strong enough to tow what you are trying to tow.

    fuck it !
    that sucks

Imagine how cool it would look if u pulled up to the track in a white celica towing an enclosed trailer that was also white and had wheels matching the tow car.

Then i drove a car exactly like the tow car out of the trailer which i took out on the track and beat everybody out there !
    that would be awesome !
