with the reputation system, are people able to create alter egos for themselves to give themselves reputation points?

im a LITTLE bit worried about maybe groups of friends abusing the system and only giving each other reputation points rather than people they dont know based on merit.

Admins can view who gives who reputation. There is also a limit of 10 reputation instances per day per user. You can also only give rep to the same person once every 15 times you give reputation.

Basically what people have to understand is if they choose to exploit the reputation system they will lose all rep and be reverted to a state where they cannot even give reputation or post for sale ads etc.

Obviously those numbers are fully configurable so if we find that we need to tweak it either to allow more per day or more or less time between when you can give a specific person cred we can. Thats one of the biggest things I want to get sorted out before we go live with this deal.

ok.. a few questions and shit....

what's the "blah-blah is on a distinguished road" text that pops up when hovering the mouse over the green dot thing just below the Rep Power level??

what is the level of rep power that a non-member gets, and what is the rep power of a club member upon signup? How many rep points does a non-club member need to post in the classified areas?

sorry josh, i know its late dude answer tomorrow or something....

The distinguished road thing is a random name that was given to a certain level of reputation in the default settings that I didn't bother changing.

Everyone starts with 10 rep points.

Once a member or non-member has 10 posts they have 1 rep power so when they vote it either ads or removes one from another users rep.

For a non-member to promote to the user group that allows posting in the parts for sale and having an avatar etc they have to have 40 rep. This means they have to get 30 positive votes from other members with few threads and rep.

Moderators give or take 10 rep for any vote they give. So if you see someone being a tool and you vote that way as a moderator, it takes them quite some time to get the rep back.

Again we can chagne these settings if we find it takes too long to get access to the for sale section or something like that. We can even split up the permissions like make another higher level group that you have to get to to be abllowed to have an avatar or what ever.

sounds a little confusing, but i understand. Might be worth looking at those rep power level titles at some stage to clear a little confusion for people.

im sure all that can be sorted out and a little FAQ thread created once we go live anyway to clear the confusion.

For sure. The list of things that influence how much rep you have and can give is rather large.

The list of increments where they have decided to have different info is huge as well.

I also have to sort out removing the post number from the user display.

and if you get sent back to 0 it should possibly read "you are a massif dong" in the tittle.

Is it possible to have a secondary seller reputation?

Because what people know and do can be two different things all together.

    damn any more smilies?

I have updated the reputation levels to be a bit more appropriate for our forum.

Everyone starts at 10 reputation and goes from there.

We might change that last one if/when someone gets that much cred.

    You have ten reputation already.

Reputation and rep power are two different things. Rep power is how much it changes another users rep when you vote positive or negative for them. So once a user has 10 posts they have 1 rep power, however the users starts with 10 reputation.

I think I'll remove the rep power display from the thread view so that people don't feel like they can't disagree with people with high rep power.

i think you should change that first (lowest level) one to read "....selling ARSEclown"

I think that the list of how your reputation goes as given above, and a basic rundown of how it works should be plenty. In fact with the descriptions given here and playing with it a little bit i think i understand it well enough now.

Also i noticed something the other night when comparing my wookie login to this one:
    # when toobs gave me some neg rep, it showed that i had received a neg rep, but did not show who it was from under the wookie login
    # when the same was done under this login, it showed who it came from. Same was applicable under toobs' login

Would this be a factor of the Rep Power of the weasel-test being zero? Or is it to do with being in the financial members group?
