This is not a thread asking for help this time, I just want to tell you all about my problems so that others don't make the same stupid mistakes I have made.![]()
Sometimes I feel like I am Project Decade 2 (copyright JCMF) with issue after issue...![]()
I have had a number of small problems with my RA23 1G-GZE conversion and right upfront I want to say a big heartfelt thanks to all of you on this forum who have taken the time to reply to me with advice and suggestions to help me out...you were all right while I was very wrong...![]()
So anyway, originally I did not have the SC clutch wired correctly so I did not get any boost. Fixed that and got a little boost but not as much as I was expecting - more on this later. While testing the SC clutch I wired it directly to the ECU (not via the relay) and fried the ECU circuit board - big black flash burn on the green stuff - DOH!.![]()
Then I suspected that the injectors were blocked so tested (all OK) and cleaned them and reinstalled. Problem got worse, no boost, no power, tankful lasts 150km, runs rich, nothing at all at low RPM or any RPM for that matter. Fuel pump screems occasionally, other times is silent.![]()
Next - suspect fuel problem, so pull pre-filter (in boot after tank but before pump) and find rust caught in the mesh trap. Pull tank and find the baffle I had welded in around the fuel pick-up is rusting. Look at bottom of strainer and find two large holes sucking rust up with fuel. Idiot!![]()
So, I get the tank cleaned professionally and fit a brand new fine mesh strainer on the end of the pickup and straight away the pump quiets down to a dull roar, but still no drive, no power.
Take it to a local mechanic - calls me back in 30 minutes and says two things, air leak at number 1 and 2 injectors, loose S/C drive belt....eff me.
Ages ago, before motor went in car I changed all the easily reached and done stuff, including the 3 drive belts, with new ones. The ones for the S/C and A/C were an exact match for length, the long one driving the alternator was not, it was longer. Me-thinks no worries, I will take up the extra slack with the alt adjustment. It was not enough, so I adjusted the centre idler pulley between this belt and the S/C drive belt, robbing the S/C of drive.
Second up, I stuffed up the installation of the injectors, which I did myself. Seems like I have cut the seats and that is letting extra air gush into the cylinders, which the 02 sensor sees and says "Fooly Rich Mate"![]()
So moral of the story is - don't use too many smilies in your posts, and don't make the same mistakes as me!
I have to sell off a few bits and pieces now to pay for mechanics and other parts I need, and my rep. is too low to allow me to post new threads in the Classified Section of ToyMods. So, if anyone has got a laugh / learned something from my garage stupidity and would like to send a rep. point or three my way, it would be greatly appreciated.
CLG is going to die laughing when he reads this thread....I'm glad he is not in WA right now![]()

Mitch Mitch Mitch Mitch Mitch. Thank you for bringing a smile to my face. All these little mistakes, and all of them I can relate to at some level.
So cool, it's all fixed now, you're going to actually turn up to an event like the upcoming dyno day or even the drags tomorrow so I can see it finally!?

And yes, now that I can keep up with the yellow Hyundai with the 2 ft high rear wing, I will be getting out to events and meeting people, once I get these little things fixed.
So you coming to the drags?
Teh UZA80 - Project Century - Remotely p00'd by association
No - I can't make the drags - don't know how my name ever made it too the list actually. No one asked me!
By the looks of it, the weather is going to kill it again. If that is the case, and we go next week instead, you're coming.

Thanks Glen, all your help (and a little rep) is very much appreciated! Life is a lot better now I know what I have been doing wrong all this time.
There is a stupid acid yellow High-undies Excel with a 2ft rear wing, std engine and coffee tin zorst here in Perth, (Victoria Park area for the locals) and I got hosed by it one day in my RA23, and its just shameful/pitiful/sad/disgusting/etc/etc.
Cheers,
Mitch.
Rep from me already mate.
Dude...thats really not cool...I felt ashamed when I *nearly* got beaten by a Magna, if that'd happened to me I would've cried!
