I have a general idea on the workings of an engine, but my oil system understanding is a little generalised. In my head, i am talking about the whole oil system in that it goes pickup > filter > pump > oil galleries (which includes the turbo feed) > sump.

My assumption is that the oil at the filter would have pressurised oil flow otherwise there would be no point to put the oil pressure sender there. But is the oil only pressurised after the pump and i have my schematic wrong (ie. if the pump is before the filter) and the pump would be exposed to pieces of crap that the strainer on the pickup cant stop?

And if the filter does recieved pressurised oil, then the adaptor blosk would be the same and would pose a restriction for the oil returning from the turbo and if the pressure is high enough force oil back up the return?

The oil draining from the turbo goes straight from the turbo core to the sump, it has nothing to with adaptor blocks or where the feed comes from. There is no difference in taking the feed from the remote adaptor plate or the block except the t-peice on the block is a more likely source of failure .

lol, all this time i thought it was the drain and not the feed ! (cant see the pic while at work so will check later)

Thanks... You must spread some Reputation around before giving it to YLD-16L again.

just an odd though oil goes from the outside of the filter to the inside right ?

if so then taking an oil feed for your turbo from the outer edge of the sandwich where they generally have tapped fittings for gauges etc. wouldnt that be getting unfiltered oil for the turbo ?

The sandwich plates generally have one fitting pre-filter and one post-filter.

ok sorry to be a thread necro but i will anyway.

i have ordered a full-flow setup kit with thermostat from travis at motorsport connections. unfortunately it won't be in for my track day next weekend.

so with the stock bleed-type setup, and semi-synth 10-40, last track day i lost a shitload of oil pressure on the last lap- from i assume the oil getting hot and affecting the viscosity.

now i have an oil pressure gauge but it's tapped into the side of the block. is this a suitable place? or am i just getting temperature readings from the block? it does take a while to warm up once you start driving....

    This is where it is:

i could probably swap the oil pressure sender (in a t piece in the stock location) for the oil temp sender (side of the block) if this is the case...

i'm putting in penrite sin 10-70 to hope to keep it all good on the track. 120 deg C seems like the maximum limit??
