Buy another car to use during the day![]()

Hey all!!
Ok during the day my 3sge (st162) runs like shit. I mean its hard to start in the mornings, you put your foot down and you get a slight push, however if you ease of the pedal it actually goes faster?! It also seems as if below 2000rpm it bogs down ten slowly starts to pick up the higher the revs, with very little torque.
BUT
At night time when teh air is cool or its been raining during the day, with a chill in the air, she opens right up and it REALLY does feel like a completely different car. Haha im not even exagerating this by any stretch of the imagination.. Its how it is meant to be 100% of the time. It has been raining in syd for the past 3 days right, and i have to get used to driving her up hills at night because it just wants to wheel spin in 1st gear. I find i have to be careful not to speed at night because it gets up to speed and takes off MUCH quicker at night.
The only code that pops up is the air intake sensor. It happens randomly, sometimes it will be there, and sometimes it will just dissapear and reappear a few days later :S Which obviously sounds liek they are linked somehow.. i have pulled out a sensor from another AFM and replaced it, however it still randomly pops up.. the error code i mean.
Im thinking that maybe the AFM is on its way out, or that the wiring/ecu maybe faulting.
Mods are:
extractors
2.25 exhaust
k&n panel filter
Thats it..
Thanks guys![]()

Hahah
Has anybody got any sort of idea what i should be looking at?? I have noticed that when its hard to start in the morning, the starter does not crank as fast ... so in other words if it cranks slightly slower you can tell its going to be hard to start. But when it cranks nice and fast it takes 1-2seconds and fires right up.
I know i make it sound like the battery is dying and it cranks as if the battery is flat.. to put it in context, think of the difference of 100rpm at idle.. you can just notice the different tone the exhaust makes.. its the same difference that i am talking about..
Very minimal but you can tell if its going to be hard to start or not..
Check the intake pipe between the AFM and the manifold - its quite common for the plastic tubes to split up near the manifold.

Electrical? Ignitor, leads? Possibly breaking down, but hanging together when it's a bit cooler?

id say a combination of the following:
AFM & adjoining intake pipe
Timing is out - if a timing light is confirming that this is still correct or ok (ie 12 degrees static advance) then it could even potentially be a timing belt jump one tooth to put your cam timing out.
Ignition system is not up to scratch - this could be anything from plugs, to leads, to coil, igniter, dizzy cap, even wiring to the coil\igniter -
id say the most plausible out of the above would be the AFM \ intake pipe given the different reactions to different ambient air temps are fluctuating so bad.
good luck

Soon to be hi-comp turbo'd....
My best guess is you may have 2 problems.
1 - AFM problem, hence the code
2 - Ignition timing incorrect, This can make it harder to start and slower cranking speed.
Incorrect ignition timing could also just be because of the afm problem.

AFM or connector to it.
plus condition of wiring in general - are there many joins or corroded connections (e.g. explaining the slow cranking).
Yeah, you have 2 problems, No 1, no guts when hot, but good when cold is airflow related.
2nd, starting problem sounds like a lack of fuel from the cold start injector. My starting prob sounded like yours, fixed by replacing the cold start time out switch.
