Default Drift day - Sat 11 March - Winton

    Ok boys and girls,

Vicdrift, the new Victorian drift club (as you probably guessed from the name), has organised its first event. It will be a drift day aimed at beginners and the experienced alike.

    Quick details:
Where - Winton raceway, Winton (about 2hrs north of Melbourne)

    When - Saturday 11 March
    800 Scrutineering
    900 Drivers briefing
    930 On track
    1600 Top 16 comp
    1800ish Track closes

Cost - $130 for Vicdrift members (visit vicdrift.com to join), $160 for others. An AASA license is needed, $45 for the year, available on the day.

    More details:
Instructors will be available to sit in with you or drive your car with you and give you tips. Also there will be a beginners' section running.

Usual rules apply. Car must be in reasonable condition. Helmet and neck to ankle clothing needed. Look out for the rules and supp regs for further info.

I'll be there for sure. And I hope to see some of you guys too.

Ok, given the overwhelming response to this event, I thought I should just bump it up.

Winton is a great track. Come take a look. $15 to spectate.

It was good to get back on track. Damn hot, but a pretty good turnout of cars.

5 sprinklers (Clayto, Willy, Sideshow Craig, Alistair and me) and a manual 1JZ MX83 (had a good look, but never met the guy). I didn't get to spectate much, but Al in the red ZE AE86 was doing damn well.

The day was a bit slow and disorganised, but that's what you have to expect for a first event.

Strangest breakdown of the day went to Clayton, who had a petrol tank start to leak. From a crack in the top of the tank.

That really is a strange breakdown.
So not a bad event hey.
I am really think of giving drifting a go, but unsure where to start. I think I just wanna do something a bit different apart from continueing with my Curcuit racing.
Plus I think it would be some good experiance.

    And fun of course.

    Suggestions?

Give it a try. It is worth a day on track just to see what its all about, and have a bit of fun. If you are used to circuit racing, a drift day will be a walk in the park. Minimal scrutineering, few rules, no pressure.

Drop me a PM if you need any help or more details about how to get started.

^^^ Actually, Big Bad Bob Jane is putting the Calder nights on. In conjunction with Vic Drift, but their involvement is very limited.
