    awesome build up mate
Time is priceless yet it costs us nothing.
You can do anything you want with it but you can't own it.
You can spend it but you can't keep it.
And once you've lost it, there is no getting it back, it's just gone."

This weapon combination of choice was used for the head. Since I don't have an engine stand and the engine is just sitting free on a piece of timber, I had to stand it next to the wall to stop the whole thing moving/spinning around while I cracked the bolts. I know an extension plus small socket is probably not the best choice for torquing up a head so I will get some long sockets for that.

Then to my suprise we reveal this! A great big chunk out of piston one down to the top ring

Not to mention the stuffed combustion chamber!

Luckily I had planned for new pistons, but getting a new head wasn't what I had hoped - although I was fortunate enough to pick one up off the forums in great nick!

Been a while since an update - work is getting slower...

Block flipped over and off comes the sump

    Removed oil pump

Removed rear oil seal and retainer

Still need to remove the oil pressure sender and coolant drain valve

I've also been putting off removing all the miscellaneous studs around the block and head as i'll be buggered if I know what length studs go where when I put them back in

its fine so long as he gets the block stripped down and hone, with new pistons and rings it will be good as new

yeah i agree, but i'd be pretty pissed if I spent up to a grand on a dud engine. I just hope you either paid a small amount, or knew about the mess inside before purchase

    Soo wrong.
There isnt any real damage, its noy like a new head cant be found for very little cost.
and new pistons were planned anyway, and pistons arent that expensive.

If you bought a engine for rebuld than then your bot buying it for consumables your buying it so you have the bulk parts, like seal housings and various bits.

Any serious rebuild throws away all the consubables any way,
From the initial engine i bought i have only kept crank, block and various housings and covers.
The head i bought has been stripped down will be built with new valves, guides etc.

Judging from the purchase of A/M rods and pistons, i dont think this was ever a new rings and bearings sort of rebuild but instead a build of a entierly new engine as opposed to rebuilding the old

Yep, as merc-blue has noted the engine was bought fully aware that it was in need of a rebuild so I wasn't too disheartened when I pulled off the head! It should scrub up nicely after i've sent it to the engine builders and I get some more time to work on it.

I hate to beat a dead horse, but if you were planning on turbo, and a rebuild and rods, and new pistons and rings, why didn't you just get a regular 7 rib 4AGE. We still dont know what you paid, but just for the sake of argument, a good 4AGE probably costs less than a blown GZE.

Anyway, Im still building my engine too, just as slowly. But its a 7A block with the 4A head going GTE. Good luck on your project.

Did a little work on the head and thought id post to show the project hasn't died yet

    Pulled out buckets and shims

Using the infamous valve remover to compress the spring and lift out the retainers at the same time

Note the steam seals aren't pictured and are still in the head

    Intake with one valve removed

Short I know, but that's all for now

You going to do the washer trick to up the oil pressure?
I heard if you 'port and polish' the oil pump (really just smoothing all the sharp edges inside) you can get a bit better flow.
