    Default 4age cam size...

i would like to put a bigger set of cams on my 4age. i don't want to buy a ecu. i've read that you can't go bigger 264 degree on the std ecu. would anyone know if a chip (ie: unichip) would let me run 288 cams??? any help would be greatly appriciated
    cheers

why chip an ecu when you can move to complete aftermarket management for a fraction more cost

272 will run on std 4ag with a safc to tune
above that you will have issues
and yes it will run like a dog and flatspot everywhere with std/std-modified maps

microtech (as shit as it may be) is a pretty cheap option for our simple engines

    hahaha owned!

i dont see why everyone rips microtech these days. i've said it before i know, but nearly every quick pac performance car runs microtech with no problems at all, even on 1200hp and 6sec passes.
    it can't be that bad.

but i can see where your coming from when trying to really accurately tune an na engine.

Because it has no measure of the load on the engine. What is the difference between 900rpm and full throttle compared to 9000rpm and full throttle if your load measuring device is a TPS? Sure you have an x co-ordinate for revs and a Y co-ordinate for throttle but if you are free revving the engine as opposed to pulling up a hill the fuel requirements are completely different. 2D fuel and ignition mapping has not been cool for a long long time.

TPS is a useful thing but there has to be something measuring either air flow or load, and thereby calculating air flow.

Even a carby isn't just a throttle position based fuel delivery system. It works of throttle position and vacuum so it is reffenced to engine load.

sure it can't be that bad for a drag pass where you are only at full throttle. even a carby does a great job for that . how often do you se a 6 sec drag car using half throttle to get down the track?

the problem is flexibility at all loads in all situations... and fuel economy
peope swear by alpha-N because it is cheap...er... but it's only real use is whre youhave such large cams that you cannot get a vacuum signal (which is not exactly true... if there was no vacuum, the engine could not run )
