Default Superstruts, Are they better?

Hi Guys,
What are the differences between normal struts and superstruts. Can anyone tell me if superstruts from an AE 101 or 111 will fit into an AE92?

Thanks

Gday dude, welcome to Toymods

'Superstruts' are the suspension/brake system from the AE101. They feature significantly bigger rotors and calipers than standard AE92/MR2 brakes. Apparently they stop pretty well! And yes they will bolt into your corolla. Try and get the set of 4 when you buy (assuming you have a GTi), and expect to pay premium dollars for the set as they are from the JDM and are getting quite rare.

I think he was talking more about the suspension than the brakes. And the Superstrut AE101 brakes will not bolt on to his AE9x. You need to machine the rotors down and also grind an arch into the calipers. http://www.twincam.org/forums/index....opic=1063&st=0 This explanation is 100% correct.

What are Superstrut Rear brakes?

Myles Powell reckons he got the AE111 Superstrut Suspension to fit on the blacktop conversion he did on AE93. Not sure how much "Better" it is.
I had a brief look at doing it on my AE90 - AE101 but it was too hard. The crossmember was too different or something. I still have the SS Suspension (minus calipers and rotors, if someone wants to look.)

What does "superstrut" mean? How does it vary from any old mac strut?

I forgot about that thread . I believe you'll need 15" rims minimum instead of 14" though.

Yep 15's are the MIN. I have not seen anybody get away with 14's.

Um, I think there is a thread on the old forums about the design and differences re norm vs Super Struts.

i have a set of AE111 struts and brakes

will these bolt directly onto a corrolla ae92 , with 17's on it ?

would there be any point in using these if there are already pedders shocks + springs in there ??

if anyone wants any ae111 - half cut leftovers, i have 10's of bits including this superstrut setup !!!
send me a PM regarding this

I can confirm a couple of things....

AE101 superstruts (the whole strut assy) will NOT bolt directly to an Australian delivered AE101.
The whole lot bolts up [b[except for the threaded hole where the lower rear control arm on the strut bolts to the chassis is non-existent on an aussie AE101 chassis, and would be a MASSIVE pain in the rectum to add it.

THe same can be said for an AE92, but adding the differences in subframes as well making the retrofitment harder still.

I have pics demonstrating this:

Here is the superstrut. NOTE there are two lower control arms which connect to the strut at two independant points (ball joints)..... this effectively moves the rotation point of the hub further outwards, reducing understeer and improving steering precision IMMENSELY

Here you can see the hole on the aussie AE101 chassis that doesnt exist. The rearward lower control arm joint goes in between the metal saddle type clamp and the part of the subfram bolted to the chassis here...... a big fat bolt then goes through them all and into the chassis.....but there is no hole on the chassis!!!!

...... butt scratcher?!

Is that the only difference?
I reckon anyone decent enough at welding could fit a nut up there. Either cut a bit out of the chassis & weld a nut to the upper side of the crossmember (probably not recommended) or weld a nut onto a plate & then weld that into a hole in the chassis.

I wonder if the superstrut on the ST205 GT4 could be modded to fit other Celicas or equivalent chassis?
