Head unit Question Auto Reverse Stuffed up

Hi guys

I've got the stocker head unit in the UZS131. I am using one of those tapes with the head phone lead into my mp3 player

any way, I play the tape and the it keeps auto reversing. The tape stops swaps sides then straight away swaps back to the right way. It starts fine will get through a few songs and then it starts doing once a song then more to the point where it just keeps swaping sides.


I have only tried this one tape and havn't had a chance to use a normal tape.

Should I be putting a head cleaner thru it, trying a normal tape or change brands of tape converter???

Does your tape convertery thingy roll the other spool when you turn one?

Some fancy smancy tape players don't like it when only one spool is spinning. They start going nuts, doing exactly as you've described.

I'd give a regular tape a go, roadtrip mixtape!!!

If it continues to play up, then find a halfcut and get a crown tape deck, ahahaha

If you didn't wnat to use an FM modulator, you could buy a cheap head unit with an auxilary input. Got one for the misses car so she cna plug the ipod in. Only cost $98, and its a pioneer

I had a tape converter that did the same thing, if you put something gummy on the wheels to increase the load on the spinning it worked for a while... But you also risk ending up with a bunch of whatever you used to gum up the wheel inside your tape deck... I've gotta agree with the FM transmitter idea! (or, you know, go to JB hifi and get an MP3 headunit with a DI plug)

if both spools dont turn or dont turn freely the player thinks its the end of a cassette tape and auto reverses

I should of mentioned that, when I bought the Mp3 player I also bought a FM modulator,

Cause the UZS131 has both the radio and tv ariel both in the rear window, the fm modulator wasn't strong enough to picked up. It isn't a cheap one does run off the cars 12v so it should put out the strongest signal possible.

I won't be putting another headunit in as like the MX83 there are all intergrated bottons up near the air con for the radio, plus info comes up on the screen. Everything works on this crown and I want to keep it this way.

When I turn one side of the tape the other turns but maybe not enough. I'll look at getting another kind of tape converter, look into a booster for the airel or at worst case get another crown headunit

If they do a no worky worky type refund, might be worth a shot if you don't want to give up the intergrated stereo.

the only problem with the FM modulator C2888 has mentioned is that the crown has dual diversity FM antennas... which have a different FM plug.

Next time you are up this way stitty, let me know and i can make the wired FM modulator from jaycar work on your crown - just requires some cutting and rewiring of FM antenna plugs thats all

Random, the FM modulator works in my Celsior, and thats the same setup with the rear window antenna.

FM radio isn't the best, but the modulator works a treat.

stitt... i'll have a look at your head unit when i see you tonight, and we'll see how easy it is to pull out.
If its quick and easy, i'll see if i can do something tomorrow arvo.

My only fear is the whole dual diversity shit... its so stupid.

well I thought I'd tell you guys how I sorted this out.

was kinda by accident, had some people in the back and we put on a DVD. I noticed a spare input into the signal converter. I worked out the tv aerial and the DVD plug into a signal coverter. while i was playing with the dvd I noticed some spare RCA inputs, so I bought a head phone to RCA plugs and now plug the Mp3 player in that way. the only issue is that I can't charge the player and listen at the same time as the charge lead introduces noise into the system. But i can live with that. As i also realised that the DVD player will play Mp3 discs
