Default RA23/8 intermittent wiper up grade

Parts are found for this RA23/8 intermittent wiper up grade, in a '78/9 round headlight RA40 ..

You may find that not all RA40's have the intermittent wiper.. But they will have the wires, you will need... ( & a loop/link plug you can use untill you find the rest of the parts)

This was cut from a '78 RA40, with no int'/wiper.. But has the wires for the job.. Also has the link... (the link is used when no int'/w)

This is the full indicator & wiper stalk, int' relay box, relay holder, after all tape & other wires removed, now you have all wires, needed to fit this to a RA23/8...

This intermittent relay will sit in you R/H kick panel.. ( it's the one missing on the top of standard relay block on all RA23/8's )
you will need to solder a few wires. but color code should be the same..

    Note :-
on the back of the intermittent, "Black "Box," there is 4 wires :- 1 (or 2) x blue to T/L/side, Blue/white to T/R?side, Blue/Green to B/L/Side, & Light green/Red bottom right..
This Light green/Red wire is the int' switch wire..
Seen here at the other end..

These pins on the end, can be removed from the plug buy use of small screw driver to push the clips in..

All these wires can be unclipped & refitted to your loom, replacing your curent wires & soldering these tails in...

    Then retape your loom up..

The indicator stalk Also from the RA40 (round light) will also have this Light green/Red wire, so it is good to have it there when doing the wire swop...

I'll add wire diag' soon.. here..

The use of the RA40 '80-'81's int'/indicator stalk will require Lot's of soldering.. & you will also need the Relay block.. as "Black Box" thing has 6 wires..... unlike the 4 wire round headlight...
I'll get pic's & add wire diag' here...

RA40 square light relay block & wipper control..

'80/'81 relay block with the '78/'79 next to it....
these wires can be swopped from the '80 to the early RA23/8/40's relay block..

    wiring diag' soon....

If doing the Latter RA40 conversion, you may also consider the MX62 as well as it has the Varible Speed Intermittent wippers.. But you need to file the Round Hazard switch hole to a Square, for the MX62 Rocker switch...
This is a bit harder to do but again i'll do some pic's & a diag' here..

This MX62 int' wiper is easer to fit to a '80-'81 RA40

    cheers

    Q:- What model RA40... mk1 or mk2..? & what is s2..??

Are you interested in fitting the MX62 variable int' wiper controls, to a mk2 1980 RA40 celica..?
or are you looking at fitting the mk2 int' wiper controls to a RA23/8..?

    cheers

Sorry should have been more specific.
Fitting RA40 Mk2 int wiper box to a ra23 with a KE70 stalk. i have the wipers working atm but no int as i was missing the box. i have to brown box from a RA40 Mk2 but i need a wiring diagram/pinouts or similar to work out how to splice the box in.

    Cheers Mike

    Hi,

Do you have more details and pics relating to the MX62 variable speed unit. Really keen on this type. Also do you have pics and details relating to the change over of the hazard light switch.

    Kind regards

Ok.. looks like i'll have to pull my finger out & get some details.....

The MX62 int' wiper is best suited to the 1980/1 RA40 mk2...... as the plug is the same & you only need to add an extra plug with a few wires.....

As for fitting the MX62 parts to a mk1 RA40 or RA23/8 you will need to rewire the plug under the dash to fit....

the hazard light switch.... i only cut the hole to fit the rocker type switch...
i may have my old one.. but may have to do a demo' with pic's.....

i am getting on with this & other things.. but as i no longer live where my shed is, & have a long drive, it may take a week or two...

    cheers

would you be able to snap a pic when you get the chance of the underside of the RA40 MK2 relay bloc. im really in need of the wire colours and positions going into the wiper controller.

    Cheers Mike

    Additionally,

What is the possibility of fitting MX73/MX83 intermittent unit to an RA23/28/40?
