    Default 1jz pistons in 2tg

I'm looking to try to turbo my 2tg and wondering if the 1jz pistons will fit on the 2tg rods and will they run? They've the same pin size and the jz pistons have a lower comp height which should assist valve clearance?

valve reliefs, pin hights, deck hights, dish and pin widths would all have to be checked. probly better off buying a set of forged pistons rather than going thru all the effort of making 1jz pistons work (but having the 2 spares would give you room to experiment)

why not use the factory pistons with low boost and a decent tune?

    cheers

Get your self some 2T-GEU pistons (8.4:1) and you'll be able to boost the thing up beautifully!

There are also some aftermarket 7:1 comp pistons out there, but I imagine they're pretty hard to find these days...

well unfortunately it always comes down to cost when chasing these type of mod

do you know how much boost the stock 2tg pistons will take before melt down?

Do you have a tree in your backyard that you can grow 1JZ pistons on or something?

1JZ pistons would be worth more than 2T-G pistons!

2-valve vs 4-valve suggests the JZ pistons will not work without significant mods, which will quickly erode any perceived cost savings. For moderate boost I'd go with low-compression factory pistons, otherwise aftermarket forgies are the go.

I dont have instant access to official 1JZGTE piston sizing. With the 2t being 1.535 inch (39mm) compression height the 1JZ would need to be a bit higher than the 2JZGTE comp height of 1.338inch (33.98mm) for the compression in that poor engine to be above 6.0:1

Sounds like you are trying this on the cheap?
3T high comp pistons would make for a boost friendly setup, and unless you have giant cams would most likely be free running (no valve to piston interference). 2nd hand forgies are out there if you've got a bit of time to find them...

If you were able to swing a 3t crank in there then there are more piston possibilities!

That or consider ordering out of the states from someone like THIS:

2tg is a dying breed and pistons are extremely rare here since the 1jz is excessible naturally I'd have to adapt

according to the weiseco website 3t pistons have a CH of 1.375" and the 2jz is 1.338" so I'm just wondering if 1jz pistons would be similar and I'll have a chance of using those with a 3t crank.

3T high comp pistons would make for a boost friendly setup
how much safe boost can I expect with std 3t pistons?

Standard ones?... quite a lot or a hint of detonation - whichever comes first.
But seriously I wouldnt use standard ones, just keep an ear to the ground for a 2nd hand set of forgies being discarded by an old school rally dude etc.

I found conflicting information on whether the 1JZ and 2JZ have the same piston dimensions. If they are same comp height then they would be great on a 3T crank!

    Cheers
