Am thinking of buying a 2000 model hilux but the engine has compression problems and i have been advised will probably need a new block.

Will it be ok todrive the car the way it is interstae for a while and also whats the cost of getting a replacement 3rz or getting something else a bit gruntier in its place??

3RZ is a pretty tough engine. In essense it is the replacement for the 22RE. The RZ engine line was available in 2RZ=2400cc and 3RZ=2700cc. TRD had Alpine Performance build superchargers for them.

Concerning driving the one you speak of..... there is too little information on the engine to determine.... but I'd say if its a deal... the RZ engine line is versitile and effective.... find a spare and begin building it.........

ok this is what i found out....

the car has some tappett noise and is sluggish..
the head has been redone but problems still exists.

A mechanic feel that there is a problem in the bottom end somewhere.

    Enough info??

I do suggest having it looked at by a professional. Internet diagnostics can hardly substitute especially when your own knowledge is lacking.

I saw you found new 3RZ engines for $3.5k.... That would be the easiest route... takes least amount of time... and then your done with a nice new engine
