    yes, better buying new microtech.

re coils: titan built supra just ran 8.55@172mph using stock coils. Uses a motec and stock igniter as far as I know! Obviously they don't have cracks in them

re autronic: I didn't like the software personally. If you aren't tuning it or doing much datalogging then probably doesn't matter but I found the microleb software a hell of a lot easier to use.

There are plenty of big power 1J and 2JZ's using the stock coils so i don't see any need to replace them for no reason, i have a good condition set i recently bought.
Can the SM4 utilize the factory igniter?

I am also under the impression they have an inbuilt boost controller, is there any kind of hand controller or can you hook up an external switch to run different amounts of boost?
factory ISCV could be made to work but will chew up a few outputs so i would just put a ford one on to make tuning a shitload easier ie: put in the idle rpm you want and it will sit at that value straight away (the less setup time the cheaper the tuning)

factory coils + igniter will work but an upgrade would be benefitial (mine runs factory coils + igniter but we had to gap the plugs down as the factory igniter doesn't like big dwell time and gets hot)

inbuilt boost control does work well but requires a fair amount of setup time to control boost (perfectly that is) as i dont like wavy boost curves.

Re autronic software. while not as basic as a microtech neither is the ECU, how do you expect it to do the job 100% perfectly if it is only using basic programing software? you cant.
in having said that if you sit down and spend some time using the software it is actually quite easy to navigate your way around and setup as required once you learn all the shortcuts.
90% of the tuning can be done in about 1.5hrs if your using a competent tuner but it takes atleast 5hrs to have it 100% spot on in all the tables as you are using VE numbers not Ms.

draven has the later vvti coils which are 3 coils with leads to the opposing cylinder which is probly why his breaks down (apart from the lack of CDI)

True. Wasted spark setup. It won't hold us much as the early model 6 coils. I will have to look at options when going for my single turbo project, especially when running 600hp+ but I will be running CDI, would like to know the limit of the vvti ignition with the CDI, probably not a whole heap.

try it and see, depends on how much the std VVTi coils will take (i would assume over 100hp/cyl) dwell time wise. worst case some EA falcon coils will be an easy upgrade later.

forgot to add that my coils are set up waste spark.

I would say you would get to a fair amount of hp with the VVTI coils and an Autronic CDI
