Autonic SM4 + 1JZ

Considering selling my LT12S and going for one of these down the track, i know the awesome thing about the Microtech is the fact you can use all the stock sensors etc..

What i'm wondering is basically what is needed apart from the ecu itself to get one hooked up to a 1JZ?

Yeah not heaps hard to do, there are a few options when it comes to how much more you want to spend. I wired one up for a mate last year.

Wanna upgrade your coils?
Standard ones have the cracking problems, & seem to struggle with decent power increases, and of course heat. There's lots of upgrades out there, all of which work pretty well but vary wildly in cost. We used second hand LS1 coils ($100-$200 for 8) which have an inbuilt ignitor, remote mounted with some custom leads ($60 to make yourself) set up to run waste spark, as the SM4 only has the 4 ign. outputs. There is an ign. multipier available to run it fully sequential but all advice was it wasn't necessary.

The word from US supra people is that the LS1 coils made great improvements on 5-600+hp 2Js, not only in power but at idle & cruise.

ISCV or Ford idle valve. The Ford Idle Valve is what's suggested by Autronic, is easy to wire up, fairly easy to get second hand/cheap, & I imagine would be much easier to set up, even for an experienced tuner. But requires a mod or two.

Apart from that the bosch water temp sensor suggested by Autronic is cheap & a straight swap for the standard one, which should work but isn't exactly the same spec as the Autronic one.

Or you can use stock everything (bar air temp sensor), and hook it up to the standard loom, but running new loom is a decent sized job & is a good chance to do everything properly....

the bosch one is about $40 from memory and considering you dont need to put any values in the ECU makes life easy.

There are plenty of big power 1J and 2JZ's using the stock coils so i don't see any need to replace them for no reason, i have a good condition set i recently bought.
Can the SM4 utilize the factory igniter?

I am also under the impression they have an inbuilt boost controller, is there any kind of hand controller or can you hook up an external switch to run different amounts of boost?

Yep you should be able to.

Most of them have some sort of ign. "enhancers", with new or just newer coils though. An ign. upgrade is a pretty good idea, especially when it can be done fairly easily & cheaply.
I believe you can use the standard ignitor, it may have to be wired up for waste spark though, which might over work it a bit.

Pretty sure you can hook up a switch for that, there's plenty of spare inputs to use.
Download the SM4 software, & in that is the wiring diagrams. That'll give you an idea of what it's capable of.
