They welded an S series centre a few years back for a mate, axles lasted about 2 hours.

I wouldn't for a daily, but that's just my opinion.
On any other toyota..lock diffs arnt so bad...just 86's are known for breaking axlesOriginally Posted by YLD-16L

As mentioned, you can be pretty sure you wont get much life out of the S series axles with a locked diff, they taper down a lot at the spline.
They will last longer with a locked diff if: a) you have really slippery tyres & never get traction, or: b) you leave the car in the garage![]()
I've locked a few, and i'd never lock one on a daily.. even my agricultural lokka centre now is HEAPS better.. you think you are going to go sideways.. but in reality you are just going to understeer a lot.
And trust me, this is a man who is no stranger to dodgy carsOriginally Posted by SL666

Strange things are afoot at the circle K
this had a locked diff.. .
pillarless!
haha i know its off topic but did it leak?
the sink?
no.. it was fine.. did splash up on the window when driving at like 80+
Yep, I put a welded diff in my Celica just to get rid of all my oversteer. And boy did it. This car had terrible oversteer with the open diff, even at surprisingly low speeds. I've turned the front Koni's down so it's just a mild level of understeer now.
73 Celica (New track car) - 20/22R Hybrid, caged, built suspension, AE86 brakes, 5 speed, 155 rwhp, 165 rwtq all motor!
86 Crown Vic (Old track car) - 5.0L HO, 2.5: dual exhuast, 5 speed, TruTrac 3.55, race suspension, race seats, grandma track car turned tow vehicle.
you could always fit the ever (dont know why) popular hilux diff, and then see if the 4AC has enuf grunt to turn it while jacked in the air
