restoring carbon bonnets

Hello!

I've had my bonnet for probably a year now, and it's been oxidised badly (it's faded, no longer glossy or shiny)

I want to get it to shine like it did the first day i got it. Cut and polish didn't work, and neither did armorall protectant.

Can someone give me some tips?

Hi,

If the gel coat has started to yellow there is not much you can do about it. In the manufacturing process you have to add uv inhibitors to the mix in order to prevent this.

Of course you can always paint the thing with urethane based paint and hence protect the carbon and gel coat from uv rays............but will that look as cool?

I've always wondered if the carbon bits being sold around the place are UV stable.
I guess the next couple of years might demonstrate the quality of a lot of these bits as the Oz sun gets at them....
