Default error codes after an 7mgte conversion

Does anyone know how to get the error codes from a 7mgte engine in an '83 ma61 chassis (with ma61 dash). The diagnostic plug is in the engine bay, and i've tried linking T/E1 sockets with a wire but no lights blink on the dash. Does that mean there's no error codes or that the ma61 dash not have the right "check engine/engine symbol light" on it.

Reason for checking: I've just had the HG replaced and have probs with misfire or stuttering at lower revs. And stalling when coming to a halt. Problem is more noticeable when warmed up. Am in the process of checking plugs and leads now

    7mgte into a MA61 is a conversion...

It sounds to me as if a 'check engine light' was never hooked up as part of the conversion! This is understandable as the MA61 dash doesn't have a check engine light

What I suggest that you do is setup a check engine light!

Do a search but the jist is get a led / blub and put 12v (ignition) on one end, and send the other end to the 'W' pin on the ECU, you may need to look up the ECU pinout to find the W pin

The ECU will connect the W pin to ground to turn the LED / blub on.

    Hope this helps
