Yes but theyre not meant to be nearly as tight as a serpantine belt. Belt Width and Thickness will also have a big impact on the amount of noise they make.Originally Posted by JetspeedCamry
Here's the comparison of the two crank pulleys on my motor. Obvious wear after about 16k miles.
The belt i have on now seems to be exactly the same, i cannot for the life of me get any noise out of it by having it firmer. I'm going to go loosen it off a touch soon and see what result i get. Just remember seeing somewhere that there supposed to be relatively tight.
Kind Regards,
Kurt.

Well this is the thing. Originally the setup on it had a good amount of noise. High pitched whine. When it was time to replace the belt and crank/water pump pulleys, put all back together same way, and you can barely hear it. There is a noise there, if you lift the bonnet, you can hear this low pitched whirring...but no where near as low or as high pitched as it was...weird.

Kurt.

Well dont forget that the majority of belt manufacturers will be aiming at a belt which makes as little noise as possible so your new belt has probably been changed to deliver less noise. Remember that the majority of these types of belts are used in conveyor type environments where noise is clearly something that people want to avoid.

Hey thought I would bump this back up there. Just wanted to see how the new owner went in fitting them? Also how does the crank pulley attach to the harmonic balancer?
