Have a think about the drivetrain configuration. Do you think the Celica box will go into an MR2 now?

Gen III Celica motor is internally identical to Gen III MR2 motor. There are changes like exhaust manifold & intercooling externally.
Do a search for SW20 MR2 threads on here & you'll get better answers.

i was under the impression that the gt4 gearbox would be stronger, i heard it was possible to block off 4wd boxes for fwd use, and an mr2 is just a fwd layout turned around, yes?

What hes saying is. Celica is 4wd. Mr2 Isnt. You wont be able to get it to work.

You could modify the gearbox to work, but it prob isnt worth the hassle. The MR2 turbo gearbox is pretty tough. If your not having problems with it keep it.

No, the MR2 is not a Celica turned around. I'm guessing from this statement that you don't actually own one.
Do the search I said. There's plenty of info on this site about this (enough that you shouldn't really have needed to start this thread in my opinion)

wagonist, yes i do not own one, but im looking to get an '90 model sw20 with a straight body and give it some tlc. I was just asking if the 4wd box would work so if i did get a 205 cut i could integrate it into the mr setup.

The 205 box is internally very similar to the MR2 turbo box and for a hefty price can be made 2wd.
But the output spines on the 205 box are much smaller and probably therefor weaker than the MR2 splines
Allthough the 205 box handles the same power as the mr2, it is designed to have only about 50% of the torque through the "front" splines.

So for a conversion buy a MR2 cut and save yourself custom driveshafts, plus the wiring, intercooler, radiator pipes, alternator etc will all be much easier.

This would be the best way to go.
But before you go too much further, have a search around the site (& certainly do it first before you ask a question again). All the questions relating to that swap will already have been covered somewhere.
I'd also recommend you go stick your head under, around, in one first because the job isn't easy. Find one at an importer or wrecker.
