While I agree with your post, I don't agree with the follwing....

If it wasn't for Toyota enthusiasts that came together to form toymods cars like yours & river's celica would be worth 3/5ths of fuck all as their simply would be no demand for them.

Most of Toymods didn't even know about the RA25 until I joined.

While Toymods may have given more exposure to the car, I doubt anyone here would fork out the cash for it.

The RA25 is a collectible in Japan and one in good condition gets good money and that is where it is most valueble and where I would sell it. Toymods did not increase the value of the car.

Anyway, back OT... the club has been around before I joined. The club caters for modified and non-modified vehicles and that's fantastic as it widens our breadth of knowledge and provides more for people. Those of us that have original historic vehicles also have some nicely modified ones. We like both flavours.

I have to agree with Rona.

Without the exposure for rare Toyota cars like your RA25 or my MS51 the rare JDM old schoolers would be unknown to most Local Toyota Enthusiasts. You were the first person I met who knew what an RA25 was, but even yu didn't know when you bought it

Its only through the wider awareness and therefore demand of these rare models that the asking prices for them have increased.

My MS51 for example was originally bought for $600 by Alan Taylor, RA25 parts ex Yahoo Japan were previously Cheap as Shit and regularly did not sell before people on Tomods found out about them and hell even when you bought it the RA25 was cheaper than the TA22 GT.

The wider knowledge, thanks to forums like Toymods, of the rarer vehicles is the only reason they now fetch such good dollars here in Australia. You could argueably be accused of single handedly increasing the asking prices of spares for your car

PS: The stupid part is there's SFA RA25s in Australia, so although rare, the number of buyers are very limited, so expensive prices are specifically target at the 25 owners. I buy most of my stuff from yahoo japan as the obvious mark-up on 25 parts is a game often played on these forums.

That's the thing though, the combined knowledge of a group is what shares awareness of either great classics, conversions etc. As new people join they bring with them unique knowledge which is then shared with the wider community.

Do you think things like 1jz cressida's would be as plentiful today if toymods didn't exist. It is the knowledge, walk throughs or even personal help with conversions that the broader community offers. You'd still have the pioneers doing things/owning and having knowledge of rare classics but it wouldn't be accessable to the greater population.

I love Toymods. That is one of the reasons I'm an admin, so I can ban and infract so many people!

Seriously though, I fully agree with the combined knowledge of Toymods. We are like the Borg with our collective knowledge.

The things some people do to their cars is mind blowing. Without a doubt, this is the place to be for getting information on Toyotas, be it to modify or to restore.

Is this a RA25? Len Lukey personally imported this one from Japan . As you can see from the cars in the background the photo was taken back in the 70s

definitely a 70s photo car was new
Len died of cancer in 1978
He kept the diagnosis of the cancer from his wife as long as he could.
He travelled the world looking for a cure telling his wife he was going on business trips

Wow having heard from a Toymonds Member is a great privilege! Toymonds Car is one of the best-talked car suppliers in the west.

And yes I have the opportunity to check on a brief background when Toymonds originated, it was late 1999.
