its not just kicking back a gear or two is it? how long is the delay ? does it sound like the auto slipping?
Hi,
Cars a 89 Auto GZ20 Soarer with intercooler, pod and 2.5" cat back.
I notice when I hit the gas the car revs, and there is a delay until it accelerates.
What would be the problem here? Slippery Clutches?
Thanks.

Doesn't seem to be lowering gears, the delay is about 1 second.
Has the car been like this since you owned it or is it a recent thing.?
how long have you had the car?
Your car has a fairly small turbo engine carting around a fairly heavy car. . the only way it can offer good perfomance is by grabbing a lower gear, getting the revs up and therefore getting the boost up...
When cruising at around 50 kph try pulling the shifrer down to second just before you floor it.
if it doesnt feel like it is slipping then I would guess that your transmission is just taking its time kicking down through the gears.
as always if you still have concerns have it checked or serviced by an expert
1G turbo = teh sucks at floor and go unless you drop it down through the gears first.
Yeah the car has been like this since i got it about 5 months ago, thing is its an automatic so maybe the clutches are slipping. The engine will rev but i wont notice hardly any acceleration at all until 1 second then it kicks in.
What's the trans fluid look & smell like?
Has it been changed, all of it, not just dropping its pan & refilling?
automatic transmissions have torque converters... yours might be buggered and needs some revs before it transfers the sudden power?
otherwise dirty / low transmission fluid would generate the symptoms you describe

definetely your gearbox, auto's are evil creations
argon rocks my weld
filthy throttle body can give you a slight hesitation when accelerating....
give it a clean out....$2 can of carby cleaner and a old toothbrush, give it a good spray and a rub,
also adjust up any slack in throttle / kickdown cables for a quicker response.
could be that it takes a second for the slack in the torque convertor to be taken up, and then once there's load on the engine, it builds boost and then you hit the butter zone!
(or something to that effect)
I am quite sure its the automatic transmission, as a times the motor revs out and then all of a sudden the acceleration kicks in.
checked the oil level of the gearbox lately?

Is it more like the car will sit there and rev then you will feel a clunk and then it will start moving?
