Can be done. I have an 'S' series to W50 bellhousing for that exact purpose.
You'll need custom mounts, fuel lines, pumps, ecu, loom etc etc etc.. The list goes on. It'd go pretty well though.
any chance? got a hilux with a stuffed 22r and a guy at work trying to sell a 3sgte cheap. Got no idea.. thought see if anyone would know if possible. Besides the bell housing I guessing the engine mounts prob won't line up anywhere near either?

HZJ75, RS41, JZZ30
cause carby was expecting to have to do fuel lines, pump, tank pick up etc regardless of what motor i go for so that no dramas. Buying a converted camry with ecu, front mount etc so that would be covered. when u say custom loom is that just because of new motor orientation hence may need to be longer? or is it more than that?
custom mounts are a given so can take that on the chin.
guess exhaust is the other thing i would need to get done.
so the w50 housing bolts up with no mods?
I know little about this so apologies for any dumb responses.
do you know any threads that would be good for me to read?
cheers
you might find that a 'Y' engine to W bell houseing is alot easier to find and will fit a 3sgte better than an early 1s to w bell housing
W50 wont last long behind a 3SGTE - W55/57/58 is what you want
dizzi will be in wrong spot (pointing at the firewall) - either convert to waste-spark/direct fire ignition (which means n on-factory ECU) or relocate it to the front (cam pulley end) of the engine.
existing hard fuel lines will deliver enough fuel, but any flexible hoses afterthe EFI pump will have to be EFI rated.
Get a fuel tank from a 22RE-powered hilux - will save having to convert a tank to EFI (the 22RE tank will have better baffles around where the pump sits, will also have EFI-capable flexible hoses). Fuel pump may need replacing if you want to run a lot of boost.
not sure about bell housing - search for 3SGTE-powered Celica conversions and see what bellhousings they use. Go thru the Member's rides section to assist locating.
loom will need integrating into the chassis loom somewhere - mostly to pickup/join alt light, oil-pressure and temp sensors, tacho signal, B+ power, start power, ign power, ... but check the wiring diagrams for the engine and chassis to work out which signals cross form one to another.
not a turbo, but one example of 3Sengine converted to RWD (custom work was inlet manifold & adapting dizzi to front of camshaft)

I have a G52 box stock.. how do you think that would hold up if i could get a bell housing to suit?
Yeah I noticed the 22RE in my manual but I have never heard or seen one before.. always thought they when they went to EFI in 97ish is was straight to the 2.7litre.. are they hard to find in aus?
I read somewhere that the early celicas had 22r/re's in them (like early 80's).. and 14 years later my lux is running the same POS engine lol.
G52 will probably survive depending how you drive it, although the ratios won't be very suitable so you'd be better off with a W58.
To be honest though the gearbox is the least of your worries with a 3S conversion. There's a lot more to it than you think.

i had a 3sgte in my hilux. yes all mounts will have to be custom made. also a new plenum might be on the cards. the g series box will be fine. the dizzy in mine was still at the back.
