anyone know as its the only thing stopping my having engine back together
Hey this is a little hard to explain but i will try anyways. changed the head gaskit the other day and when i was fitting the cams back in i couldn't remember which way the cam gears went on. For example it has two slots for the little pin of the cam to slot into. was wondering which way to put them as i cant remember. does the little pin sit the same side as the little dot on the cam gear or am i totally wrong?

They should only go on one way. The two pins are at different angles so only allow the possibilty of being put on one way. The pulleys also have two slots. IIRC the exhaust and inlet ones are identical too so it shouldnt matter if youve mixed them up although its better if you put everything you remove in the same spot.
Just throw the pulleys on, turn the crank to 0 deg BTDC, then turn the crank pulleys and cams so the dots on the wheels line up with the plate behind them.

Put No1 on top dead center and the marks on the timing sprocket on the crank should line up correctly.
Inlet knock pin faces up.
Exhaust knock pic faces down.
Put on cam gears and line the outer dots up with indents in the metal timing plate.
I will add a picture when i get home.
check out the 4age book. Its all in there i use it regularly.

Thanks for the pic, you just got me out of trouble too. I marked everything before it came out, but one of the marks rubbed off.
