Have a look at GiantTomato's MX23, he has a non-turbo 2JZ-GE and it seems to fit very nicely. I suspect you'll have clearance issues with the stock twin turbos (steering box is in an inconvenient spot) so a single turbo conversion would probably be the best way to go. Apart from that it will be normal engine conversion stuff, ie custom engine mounts and lots of wiring and plumbing.

No the standard gearbox won't live long behind an engine with this much torque, you'll want an R154 at a minimum.

single turbo conversion, or do a rack conversion,
i looked into doing the same to my mx13 years ago....

    single will be the easiest!.

Check to see if you need a midrear sump (ala JZA70/JZZ30) or a mid sump (JZS13x).

If you need a mid sump, start searching now as they are very very very rare.

    He needs a JZS131/133 sump.

Need to go big single or high mount the rear turbo. Probably need to modify the tunnel a little to fit the R154 - don't know for sure because I've never done it.

There's also not much room for a decent intercooler, particularly if you have an air conditioning condensor.

Unbolt sump. Bolt on new sump. Just need to make a turbo oil drain back and relocate the dipstick, both of which are an absolute C U Next Tuesday. The dipstick in its original position come out exactly where the engine mounts want to be.

Fit an aftermarket single turbo manifold. Also just use the W58 5 speed from the na Supra. Clutch and Bellhousing interchangable with block. Is able to take more punishment than R154 5 speed. The R154 5 speed has weak thrust bearings regularly failing causing gears to strip. Weak and slow syncromesh. The W58 5 speed can be upgraded to straight cut gears and stronger input and output shafts. Also a short shifter. Check upgrades with ppg gearboxes through a google search. Not as good as the Gegtrax 6 speed though. Standard on the JZ80 Series Supra. Germanie's finest gearbox.

Norbie's 3 dead boxes can testify that's not the case. The PPG gears will set the OP back to the tune of nearly $7K, for which the OP could buy a couple V160s. That will definately need transmission tunnel cut and shut.
R154 could be had for 1.5 - 2K, would probably last and the tunnel would probably need some finessing with a hammer.

Yeah 16 hrs of tunnel work for the v160 and you lose the heater box in the kettles. W58 will be fine if you dont punnish it too much.

2JZ + upgrades = big clutch required = W58 death. They do NOT last with a torquey engine and a harsh clutch, even with a sympathetic driving style. A soft clutch is not an option with a 2JZ, the clutch is too small and will slip (I tried it).

The R154 has its weaknesses but overall is a stronger box than a W58, this has been proven countless times.

Oh and my record is four W58's I'll have you know.

    Toymx23,
it really depends what you are going to do with it. If you are going to keep it stockish & be gentle with it a W58 should be fine. Mine has mild mods & a puck clutch & I am gentle with it. That said - I went to the drags last week and it is still in one piece
As Norbie said though - the R154 has been proven to be tougher.
