if you notice on the plug there is a wire clip that is used to hold the plug on. to take the plug out you have to use a small screwdriver to remove the wire so it unpluggs

you seemed to have unscrewed it and then "screwed" it royally

doubt you can put that back together you'll need to find a new or second hand one

what were u doing messing with the AFM when the air filter should just come out unclipping 3 clips at the front of the box?

off to the wreckers for u
normally 4 nuts/bolts hold the afm to the airbox/hose on the other side

not meaning to be rude son, but maybe seek a bit of mechanical advice on replacing the AFM mate i'd hate for you to get into more of a mess.

yeah i think i'll ask before touching things again. the afm was in the way of filter box so thought it was meant to come off. did find out that the filter needs a change no doubt. as you can all tell i'm not very mechanical but am trying to learn. thanks all for help

    Bean,

For future knowledge to replace/check the air filter on an ST162 you unclip the 4 clips holding the top of the AFM box to the bottom half, if you look at it you can see the lip where the 2 halves seperate. Depending on how old the pipe connecting the air flow metre to the throttle body is (they can go hard with age, and crack) it may not be flexible enough to get the top half of the box out of the way. Solution is to undo the hose clamps on the black hose, and slip it off from the throttle body and air flow metre. When your finished, you slip it back on and do the hoseclamps up.

If you have trouble finding an air flow metre, pop into the ST162 dedicated thread and ask. I have some spare, but you may be able to find one in a closer state.
