    Default Questions regarding my KE26

Hey guys, im currently in the process of rebuilding my ke26 pano. its copping a 13b turbo amongst other things. my main question is regarding the rear diff. when i bought the car it came with an R31 diff which the previous owner claimed had been shortened to fit. im not sure to what extend it was shortened though. anyway ive pulled the diff out so i can spruce up the brakes etc. im wanting to change to 5 studs as currently it is running standard r31 4 studs. what would be the best way to go about this?
also what is the widest rim i can fit in the rear without resorting to mini tubbing? would i beable to fit an 8.5" rim? or would it mainly come down to offset etc?
    thanks for any help.

easiest way i reckon would be to get the axles welded up and redrilled, and the rotors redrilled to suit, or get some commodore/falcon axles and have them shortened to suit depending on what stud pattern your after.

biggest ive fitted under the rear of my KE25 is a 15x7 saab 9000turbo rim. you can go bigger than that, im thinking 8-8.5" depending on offset and tyre choice. someone else here would have more concrete results..

oh ok thanks for the info. i might end up ditching the R31 diff and going for a ford 9" unit and do everything right the first time, so i can fit wider wheels, have the 5 studs already etc. i just need to read up on it abit more.
does anyone else have any info regarding rear rim width?

mate dont butcher the car and a 9". its so much overkill its not funny. a borg warner, F/G series toyota, volvo dana and a multitude of other diffs will fit and give you what your after, plus potentially better brakes and will be cheaper, and weigh the car down a hell of a lot less.
why not just cut down your current diff a tad more and use falcon/commodore axles? surely this would be the cheapest option?

You could get billet axels then drilled to 5 stud. Also could go a hilux diff as im sure the 13b turbo will make the r31 diff go snap.

a borgie with all the good gear in it should be able to cope. VL turb's are doing 10's on them.

id be going to a drag night and look under everyones rotor powered <1000kg car to see what their running

yep same here. go look on ausrotory when it comes back online.

yeah vl's are using the borgwarner ones, but the amount of torque the rotarys produce is scary.

Make sure your r31 diff has 28 spline axels not 25 like the pintara.

thanks for the info guys. ive been getting mixed responses about the strength of R31 diffs, it handled the power fine when the car had just the standard s4 13bt in it, but theres gonna be a shitload of power going through it after its all done and i wanna make sure it can handle it no worries. the majority of rotors are either using hilux or fords. just checked ausrotary and its back on finally, so ill have to hav a read .
