This is what mine sounds like on a cold start. Sounds a lot more healthy after it is warmed up, bit rattly when cold. I have an oil filter relocation kit, not sure if this slows the buildup of oil pressure at all?

It was pretty dodgy under the cam covers before I cleaned it out, but when I had the sump pan off the underside of the engine/pickup was fine.

Exercise, watch your diet, cholesterol and get plenty of sleep, because all the worry & those heart stopping moments aren't doing you any good, but doesn't everyone have it to some extent, every time they have a new or different engine cranked over & started up? I get it from all the late model engines with EFI or a carb with all kinds of vacuum thingys, that make your gas pedal feel like it is some kind of 'fly by wire' going out of control that has a mind of its own, completely ignoring that red glow staring me in the face.Originally Posted by Slim
It's probably fine.
How long is it compared to every other engine you've ever seen? Is it knocking or making any mechanical noise before the pressure comes up?
Try shutting the engine off last, after unbuckling & parking brake & whatever, instead of doing it first, to cool the bearings a little, and don't blip the throttle when shutting it off, just to see it there's a slight change. I think it would be hard to find a filter that doesn't have a drain-back-valve, or one that would make any kind of difference, let alone a significant change.
coopers dont have anti drain back valves.
when you start it nose up on a hill, how long does the light take to go off?
and if your really concerned, get a oil pressure gauge, even just run it for a week to see what your getting.
if you are concerned it will be worth a check, as i had 2psi of oil pressure at idle with my shagged oil pump. that would take 5 or 6 seconds to give pressure on startup.
was worse on hills.

Punctuation is the difference between 'I helped my Uncle Jack off his horse' and 'I helped my uncle jack off his horse.'
yea mine takes a couple of seconds to go out, i use that shell ferrari oil (5-40 i think)
and havnt used a genuine filter for a while, coz they cost more and i have to drive to the other side of town to get one. its no excuse i know; the next oil change i do i will go to toyota and buy a whole box coz i change the oil a lot.

Why do you need to drive to the other side of town? Is it an unusual filter that not many Toyota dealerships stock? Or do you get it cheaper from somewhere? Just make sure you're not spending $10 in petrol to save $5 on a filter![]()
nah just a regular 2jz filter.
i think the closest dealer is cityside.
i guess its not that far from supercheap, but like i said there is no excuse i will buy a box next time.

Theres nothing wrong with the ryco filters when you compare them to the genuine toyota filters made in thailand, Ive cut them all open before , the japanese geniune toyota filter was much better tho but we cant get them here anymore.
Out of the ryco,s the Z131 has the best filter paper .
