Default connected speedo now car wont start PROBLEM FOUND (sort of)

jeeeesus this is just bullshit... car is- Mz20 with Jza70 engine/box today i connected 3 wires up for my speedo to work... 3 wires is all i touched.

started up fine first go after i wired it, idle was lower i noticed but anyway took it for a drive round the block and watched my speedo and odometer click over for the first time in ages, went good

i go to start it again a few hours and it kinda started but then died as if it didnt have enough revs to keep goin, tried starting it again with and without accelator down and it just cranks over

cant even push start it. Anyone know what may of happened to cause this? And where do i start to look/diagnose?

    ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    GOT IT STARTED WOOHOOO

OK car was very low on fuel so put in 10 litres and tried cranking still no go, bridged FP and B+ again and wullah me got starty! I tried bridging them a few weeks ago but maybe there wasnt enough petrol in the tank

I searched today and found some good posts regarding how the fuel pump gets power via the resistor/relay near drivers strut and then to the main relay in the foot well then through the red n black wires to the fuel pump (is that right?) although im not too good with wiring etc its a bit overwhelming sometimes

my question is now that it will start and run with FP&B+ bridged (dies if i disconnect it) where do i look now and how do i tell/test if one of the relays is rooted or not.

it probably has nothing to do with the speedo... coz it worked fine before... erm.. if you touched your ECU and connected wires up from there, could be some wires got hot / melted through?

also it sounds like an electrical problem.. do you have spark at the spark plugs? fuel coming through the injectors? if you got a check engine light, you could use a diagnostic tool to help you find a place to start..

nah it didnt connect to the ecu, just the dash loom (tacho, water temp, speedo etc) but one of the speedo wires then goes back to ecu

ill have a look at all the wiring tomorrow and check the engine codes

    cheers mate

pull your cold start injector out and crank it momentarily - it should produce a mist of fuel when cranking. to test for spark in a 1JZGTE, you'll need to pul the coil pack off, ground it to the motor, and install a spark plug into the ends, then look for a spark as you crank the engine. While you have packs and plugs off and out, do a compression test too - this eliminates other possible scenarios.

    dude
it sound slike you've disconnected your fuel pump.

you've probably snapped or disconnected a connection for the fuel pump/CoR.

hmm if its the fuel pump it must of shit itself when i got back from my testdrive cos ive checked all the wires/connections etc everything "seems" fine and connected

wheres the fuel pump connection under the dash or in the engine bay? i did notice power steering fluid has been sprayed from the top hose onto some wires near the fusebox

can i bridge something in the diagnostics box to test the fuel pump? Fp and B+? if its fried then good excuse for a new 040

if you temprarily disconnect the speedo wires.... does it start?

then if you reconnect them one at a time.. when does it fail? or is it nothing to do with speedo?

i SERIOUSLY doubt you've fried anything.

it sounds like your Circuit Opening relay has been borked.

you stated that you were buggering around with a yellow wire.

are you sure that this is on the dash plug? because the yellow (or yellow/blue) wire on the fat square plug is directly related tot he CoR.

disconnect that, and your fuel pump wont work.

when i first connected it i took it for a drive and it all worked, speedo was working and my odometer clicked over 2 k's.

parked it back in my shed and tried starting it 3-4 hours later and nothing, i disconnected the speedo still wouldnt start, havent tried connecting it again

it might be nothing to do with the speedo its just one of those freaky coincidences

nah definately didnt touch that fat plug, it was a plain yellow wire next to the brown one.

definately was the dash plug, i only touched 3 wires on it and it worked first shot

this sound sremarkably like a flat battery

put a multi-meter across the battery when you are cranking.

see if you can borrow battery or charge it up, and then try to start ti again.. or just jump start it.
when it starts, measure the voltage across the battery... perhaps you're alternator has given up the ghost?

nah definately not the battery, i will check it anyway.

car will crank over strong everytime (until the battery does go flat)...

what i described before might of been what was left in the fuel lines burning up cos ive tryed push starting it a few times and does nothing at all

not even a buh rerr rer
