check fault codes.
sounds like limp mode, although the rev limit is still rather high for that...
might be leaning out, knocking etc.

Hi, will it not physically rev past 5500-6k? Or does it feel like its retards at 5500rpm?. ie. there is a noticible seat-of-pants surge in power, but it continues to rev higher.Originally Posted by mjd55
If its the second, then its more than likely the 5500rpm power cut. Have a search around the old forums and twincam. Its a common problem with map gze's, found on both the late ae92 and ae101 gze's. There are various opinions to as why it happens, but yet to find anything substantial.
Cheers
I suffer from the 5500rpm power drop, but also had it cutout at lower than 7500, it was only a few minutes after starting the car after a 5min or so stop to pickup a mate. It was quite hot night.
Temp may have something to do with it?
like itcut off at 5500 - but it hard to rev past 5500...feel like power drop and it doesnt want to go ...but in cold nite ...once in while it rev past 5500
90% it wont let me
alot people go it casue map version ze need aftermarket comp or supra knock sensor?
or could it be fuel cuting boost? but i seee turbo ze with stanrd fuel pump can hanld 150kw atw
well it might cause i got over size pulley 175mm..makin around 11-12psi
Sounds like limp mode. My 20v had similar problem. Did you wire the speed sensor to dash? You need this sensor to run properly or car will be in limp mod.
Run an ECU diagnostics and it should tell you if its an ecu problem from the speed sensor.
ALSO ECU diagnose my tell you that's it something else
i often drive a MAP GZE powered AE92 with a 175mm crank pulley, front mount and exhuast. the power drops off quite a bit after 6000rpm. this car is making 13psi all day....
what other mods do you have? standard exhaust would be a big restriction
do you really need to rev it that much? a supercharger makes most power and torque down low to mid range. when its starts spinning at that speed (specially with the pulley) its not really being efficient and its almost just pumping superheated air into the engine.....thats why i never usually rev it past 6k.....NO POINT!![]()
but if you want to get it sussed then check timing, fuel pressure and codes....

sounds most definitely like the knock control is taking hold of your ignition timing and retarding it to HELL - just like what used to happen with me and my turbo 4age (running MAP 4agze computer)
...... butt scratcher?!
does anyone know the solution? or where this guy is now? i ahve the same problem*
take the car roudn and keep on redlining it, push it to redlien even if it takes ages, after a few tiems of doig nthis power drop should go
the problem is that the fuel cutoff is at 5500... being it seems the rev limit is that high...Originally Posted by Poggy

Fuelcut off is when the injectors cut, the car will jerk and hop crazy, if it loses all power and flatspots hardcore this is the ecu regrading timing, one way to get roudn this is to advancthe timing 15 degrees more then what its at, so when the ecu retards, you still have a bit of advance, try it, it works
or go aftermarket
